QUOTE
Would there be a way to make it almost like a HUD?

wow!! B) Javageek.. that's sound *really* interesting!
why not a sort of hud reflected un the glass... like the Defi ones.. do you know ?

i mean... something like that one:

i think the display of the gear alone would look nice reflected.. because the original VSD by Defi are too complicated to understand while driving (imho).. you can't check your tachos/instruments, especially if you already got extra gauges like a triple pillar pod.. then the Defi HUD and the street too in the same moment..

rolleyes.gif that's was the idea i was waiting for!! .. ok now i'm evolving my little project into a new stage.. ninja.gif stay tuned, i'll keep this thread update asap.

laugh.gif If you do that, I definately need to know how much you want for one. laugh.gif

There are alarm clocks sold here in the US that actually display the time on the ceiling or on the wall. I am sure you could buy a display that is bright enough to reflect off the windshield.

ok, here they are the first pics of a quick test.. it seems to work good:
i had inverted few wires to let the display show the mirrored gear numbers, so that, the reflection on the glass shows the correct number.

not exaclty the pilot view, but .. just to show what imho is the better position for the reflex...

of course i have already considered (and built the the box) to well hide the real 7segment display. that means you will see only the number mirrored in the glass. the real display is not visible even from outside.
A translucent dark self adhesive film should help during the day time driving.. but i'll leave these details at the end..

i choose the only place which should not disturb the drive, becuase by the pilot view, the number in the glass is in the outer area taken by the hood..

the time i'll finish this project, i'll open a new thread -- and with better clear pictures

Looking good!

Do you think it would be possible to display it on the speedometer? Or would the box have to be mounted to close?

i can stay without box if too close to the instrum. cluster..

i tryed using the tacho because there is more space, the speedo has kph/mph counters in the middle.. imho it's difficult to read...

see this reflected in the tacho:
(a little moved on the right side)

(...or perfectly centered on the tacho. tryed with a "5"th gear)

btw, putting the display in the tacho would save a lot of space... and it would be easier to install and hide with the wires under the plastic cover of the wheel-hub.. rolleyes.gif

I think it looks great in that location. Do you have a parts list and schematic? laugh.gif

Looks good!

As Java said, do you have schematic or at least parts list?
