a manual transmission has absolutely no way in telling if your car is in gear or not... its an assumption and ill tell you how that works. in order to remote start a manual transmission car you have to set it up in something called "ready mode" if you dont do the "ready mode" sequence the car will not remote start afterwards. in order to do it you have to pull your e brake and in some cases hit the brake and use your remote transmitter to enable it. then while its idleing you can take your keys out (car is still running) and your door has to open and then close. with all this happening the remote car starter has to sence ignition being on. so if your car is left in gear durring all this your car will stall obvisouly and ignition will shut off.

thats how it works!!

that is why we install a magnetic read swtich, you put the switch in position around the shifter so that the 2 parts of the switch only line up when the car is in netural.

Bump and topic steal:

TIBBYMAT, need some beginner level info from you. What kind of kit should I be looking at if I need both an alarm and a remote start, but am not really concerned about fun extras? What kind of 'alarm' do the systems that you mentioned in this thread include? What kind of prices could you get me?

im finally going to install this tomorrow. i have done a lot of researching. and for alot of the wires they go to the harness under the drivers panel.

i have checked the12volt.com and according to them i need a:

green and white wire, for the parking lights, which is a gray 20pin plug.pin#11

green and white wire, for the door pin switch, is a white 20pin connector pin#12

white wire, for tach, a blue 20pin connector pin#1

all of these are located below right?

You can also get it from the pin switch which is by the door where the seat belt is at (about 1 foot from the floor)

you can get it from the coil, or from the ECU (pin 47).

yea i was just going to look for the door pin wires.

thats a good idea to get the tach wire from the ecu.

my biggest worry is finding the parking light wire

to make the install easier on you, you can find brake, park lights, and door pin in the kick pannel in the harness that runs to the back. and you can also do your ground there too... makes for less running around to do hook ups. all wires are same color.. just test them first!

heres just a little show off i will use on installs!

this pic is joe schmo installing on his dodge ram

this is me on the same dodge ram

update.

i dont know why (maybe a short) when i tested it the first time with wires everywhere, it killed my power in my car i had nothing...i had to unhook the battery to reset something. it did that twice. but none since

i tried again but i couldnt set it in to res. mode but i checked all my wires and the brake wire i hooked up to was + all the time, needed + when pedal is pressed. after switching wires it went in to res. mode

sometimes when i try to set res. mode it will honk twice, but when i take the key out it turns off.

also still couldnt find parking light wire but its not bothering me too bad.

i dont know what the difference was but i think it was cause i reset the ecu and it finally got a good tach reading.

the only problem now is one of my remotes does not work.

when you program a remote you have to do both of them at the same time. so do the key on off on off on off on (leave it in the on position) and then press and hold the button on the antenna until it chirps 5 times while still holding down that antenna button press lock on the 2 way remote and you will get a chirp and then press (1) on the 1 way remote and you will get a chirp. then you can turn off your ignition and you are good to go!

when you get the ready mode set up and you take the keys out and it shuts down that is because of the tach signal... did you get that part fixed?
