Installing Power Inverter
So, I'm installing a new inverter in my car this weekend for a project of mine and the guy I purchased it from tells me that I only need a 1 amp fuse. He said I actually only need a 0.44 amp fuse. My inverter is 300W max. He says the way I should be doing the calculations is that the inverter only has a max current draw of .4 amps so I should be looking at it as .4A * 10% = .44A fuse.
Are you high? Power is voltage times current. The battery supplies 12V, so the current draw at 300W will be 300W/12V=25Amps. Sure, the current supplied to the 110V side is less than 4amps (300W/110V = 2.72 amps), but you're not putting the fuse on that side are you..
A 1amp fuse allows any device to use at the very theoretical most only 12W of power (or 14W if your engine is on).

^^The input is before it goes through a transformer. power in = power out. The input has to be 12V at whatever amperage is required to make the wattage draw.
You'll need a 25A fuse.

Sorry, I'm going to hijack this thread one last time. On my inverter there is a symbol to tell me which wire is positive/negative coming in but I can't understand it.
It's a minus sign with a circle around it then a line over to the right to a C then inside the C is a dot with a line over to the right to a plus sign inside another circle.
Hopefully that made sense. Anyways, my choices on the wires is a black one and then a black one with a white stripe on it.

^^Like this?
Attachment 408
That's a shielded/coaxial wire. The Outside of the wire is negative and the inside is positive.
Gotta love M$ paint artwork.
