So I'm a complete noob when it comes to installing stereos. I'm trying to remember what my ex taught me about it but I'm not sure if I'm on the right track here.

I just bought a pioneer avh-p5700dvd player. It's a flip out dvd/cd player. Now, besides the unit, do I need...

This?

Will I need the stock radio brackets as well? And, will I need a new harness? or, how do I go about connecting it, just connect the wires together? What's the best way to do that?

Can you tell I'm a noob? lol

you'll need that dash kit in the picture

you'll need a wiring harness or adapter

that should be all.

The wire that's supposed to connect to the e-brake... usually you just ground that out somewhere to allow it to work when driving.

Ok, I guess I should check if the current set up has a harness already. Also yeah I saw about that parking brake thing. That will make it so I can have it on while the car is in motion (ebrake handle is down), right?

that's correct.

do you have an aftermarket CD player already? It'll use the same harness

is there an after market cd player in your car already? if NOT then you will need that dash kit.

you will also need a reverse harness. you can get these for like 10 bucks shipped off ebay. all you do is connect the wire end of the reverse harness with the wire end of the DvD player harness then plug them in. the reverse harness goes in to the OEM radio harness.

Thats basically it.

well since there is an after market radio in the car already then you will NOT need the dash kit.

No I dont have a dash kit right now, its just braced in there. The one I had was a cheap POS so I took it out.

So, should I get the first one I put up, or this one:

do I need all that extra stuff?

if you are doing a double din deck then you need a double din dash kit... the kit in the picture wont work imo. unless the pocket is removable and theres a double din trim plate!

Why would she need a double DIN? The flip-out DVD should be single DIN

This is what she got... very nice.

I've got am avh-p6400
