Have you actually tried the 5-WLED bulbs DTN?
Like I said, the pictures look a little better than reality. It surely is a lot brighter than stock, so I wouldn't agree that these pictures are misleading. I never said they're as good as the real thing (putting a lot of LEDs in there yourself), but it is acceptable, and I will stand by my statement.
If you have any suggestions on how to take better pics, I can try again. A stock photo with the same camera is this:

Now I know you can't directly compare them, even though they were taken in the same conditions, but I don't think you can deny they're significantly brighter than stock. And the pictures do show that the light is pretty uniform, which actually was the main problem with the usual led bulbs.

Are you talking about 5W LEDs? 5-WLEDs I would not believe.

you know he means 5-wleds dude.
i tend to doubt they are that bright too, but i do have some of those new bulbs and they are bright as hell. good enough to use as like a base and just spot 3mm leds around elsewhere where they are needed.
look at the surroundings dtn, they arent that overexposed in the picture. can't be too much of a camera trick.
tibbytib: thanks for the info, you did a great job!
dtn: That's what superbrightleds calls them, 5-wleds, I posted a link, here it is again: http://www.superbrightleds.com/products/car/wled-x5.jpg
I think that the brightness of the leds is not the main issue, but I think that the direction of the light is very important in the way it lights up that clear plastic lens. Maybe that's why these bulbs are better (because of the 4 leds horizontally around). Again, I'm not saying they're as good as the real thing (I'm sure it's A LOT brighter and better if you put a lot of leds in there), I'm just saying that it looks significantly brighter than stock (except the red parts and the needles). If you don't believe that (even though it should be obvious from the before/after pics), to each his own, I don't care.
jbob: the bulbs are those in that link above (from superbrightleds). I think you need 4 of these, plus another 2 small bulbs (single led). I'm not very sure I remember correctly, but if you search there are a couple of threads with this info (the exact types of bulbs), that's how I knew what to get.
