Time for an update.

Today I got the new speakers for the vent holes. The ones I originally wanted still weren't in stock but I found these on ebay. They are all brand new Polk 3.5"



I got 5 pair (yes 5!) for the same price as the one pair I wanted. (I love ebay lol)



They fit nice in the door not in permanently yet.





As for the subs I decided not to put them in the door. It would be too much vibration and too much weight with all the sound deadening I would need.

So I will mount them in enclosures on the bottom rear of the front seats and put my 6.5 rockford fosgates in the doors.

Good call on the subs in the door. I have regular speakers (Audiobahns 3-way), and I had to High-pass them or the door panels would rattle like a b****. Sound deadening would surely help, but it would still rattle with a sub i'd say.

 

Yeah after I thought about it they would rattle way too much.

I want to mount the subs to the seat frame so they will shake the seats as well so even at low volume you would feel it somewhat.

I am still going to have 2 12" in the back but wanted the subs up front so I would still have bass when I need to take the 12" out when I go on a trip or something. A 100 pound sub box wouldn't help gas mileage on a long trip.

I won't have the doors back together untill after the car is painted. Hopefully in about a month if the weather cooperates.

 

Time for another update.

I had these finished for a while but didn't get to posting them.

I put the grilles in and mounted the speaker but forgot to get a pic with the speaker in:





The white is foam weather strip for sealing house windows.

There is no squeaking from the plastic or noise now at all.



This week I hope to start on the bottom where the factory speaker mounts, and the illuminated Hyundai logo where the map pocket is.


BTW does anyone know where I can get some cheap C/F panels?

Its only for cosmetic looks it doesn't have to be structural at all.

great work man, this chick pushed in one of my speakers and now i took em out cause they was lookin ugly. i got a new replacement but i cant figure out how to mount it yet

 

looks very good.. can't even tell that area used to be a heater vent or has been changed at all.

i really like how you went all the way with it, to keep your heater functioning well instead of blowing most of the heat inside your door panel if you didn't fab the new ducting.

 

These were burried in the basement behind some junk and I finally cleaned up so I took pics again.



Heres how I mounted them you can see there isn't alot of room:





I cut up some old speaker grilles, bent them to fit, and glued them on with silicone.

Then I bent up some small brackets I had laying around to mount the speaker. I had to glue one with epoxy and the other mounts to a factory screw location.

The strap is there just for some extra support from vibration while driving.

Its not pretty but no one will see it anyway. I am going to paint it all black anyway just because I will know what it looks like lol.

When I finally put them back in the car I will put some foam or something behind it to seal it off from the rest of the door.
