Do You Use The Sunglasses Holder In Your Rd2?

why would i want to splice wires to do about the same thing.
Well, you wouldn't if you wanted it to do the same thing. If those are the only features you want, go with the kit. It sounds like a great deal for the feaures and ease of installation. And you really wouldn't if you weren't prepared to spend hours planning and installing your own configuration. It's if you want it to do more, then doing it yourself can allow for lots of options.
For example: one touch up or down and hit the opposite direction to interrupt is the standard, but you could set them not to do one touch if you keep holding it down in either direction, or one touch in one direction only, and auto close when you cut the car off, or auto close plus vent however much you want (nice for the summer) by turning the car off, then rapidly turning to ACC and back to off to make them vent. Things like that.
And if you have a sunroof that can either open up or slide back, or both, you have even more options. Add an alarm with available accessory output(s) and then you can really have fun. Remote venting, close windows and sunroof and turn on car/AC upon remote start or temperature-based auto start if you have an alarm with that feature or the DEI temp/voltage timer. That's how I have mine. I can push a button after arming and vent the windows 2", set the car to turn on and close the windows if the interior reaches 140 degrees, and then revent the windows when it cuts off after it gets below 110.
That's probably something a lot of people could care less about, but as I am building a carpc, I'm going to need to keep my interior somewhat cool during the summer. I'm also going to retint my front windows for that reason.
Edit: I should mention that doing all that sans alarm could easily end up costing 2x as much as the kit from Redz.

Ok, i spent last night designing a new system to auto close the sunroof, which is all i wanted to start with. I brought down the price DRAMATICALLY! The only problem is that I havn't worked out all of the bugs yet. i figure i'll just post it anyways and see if anyone has any input for me.
Basic design is When car is on, and sunroof has been opened, the circuit will close your sunroof automatically when you turn off the car.
The trigger is set whenever you turn off the car but it won't do anything unless that relay (clearly marked by red arrow) is set by pushing the sunroof open buton. When the sunroof open button has been pushed the relay latches and holds itself indefinately. That's the problem i have. I need to find a way to turn off that damn power source relay when either the car is started or after a certain ammount of time without adding another 555 timer... price of this kit is looking to be $10 DIY/Mouser or $30 DIY/Radio Shack.
Edit- Basically the dang power relay in the upper left hand corner is in an infinate holding loop after the first time being set and needs to be reset somehow after a certain time or when ACC is applied.
Another benefeit to this system is it requires NO inputs or outputs asside from what goes into and out from your sunroof switch. and it will fit on a 2x2x1/2" circuit board which will go neatly into your glasses holder or maybe even up in the available space next to the console.
This is still FAR from a DIY... And of course, the DIY will have pictures to make it much easier!

This bad mama-jamma will
1 activate when you open your sunroof ninja.gif
2 when you turn off your car it will close your sunroof for you B)
3 then shut itself back off. laugh.gif
Should have been a stock mod. It's looking like it won't even have to go in the sunglasses holder. It will fit on a 2x2" board, and wire tap into just 4 pre existing lines that are in your overhead console! I will figure out prices tomorrow... just a guess, $15 DIY
This is the finished schematic.

Start testing tomorrow when radio shack opens!!!

I used the sunglass holder all the time untill I bought me a $225 Maui Jim sunglass (now I use a case holder that came with the sunglass) I eventually plan on using the sunglass holder to put the SAFII, if I ever get around to it.
