It's a simple matter of a sub should not be used with any other space then what is recommended. Why would you buy a sub and then not use the space they say you should use? Space is free...

As far as the OSB, there's no point to even bothering with it. I'm all about DIY and price per performance with car mods... but OSB isnt much cheaper then MDF and isn't remotely designed for this applicaction.

^agreed

there are subs that are designed to run in very small enclosures. here are the specs of the 8" subs I will be running. I prefer SQL, not SPL.

Use it as a mold or something to make a nice solid FG box. Might as well do something productive with it. Even though that would probably sound like poop, you didn't end up wasting good MDF. Now that you have some experience...make a good one with the proper materials...

Experience is what you gain from failure...though I wouldn't call this a failure.

Check out the manual or somewhere online to get the specs on ur subs. to see how much air space is recomended. im not sure exactly what happens when u use a box that is too small but i think the sub will but out less low frequenc bass... someone correct me if im wrong.

Box size and shape effects sound. If you go out of tollerances, too small will cause tears in the surround or other parts of the speaker because the air is compressed inside the box too much.

Too much airspace can cause distortion or damage from the speaker moving too much

Less airspace will cause higher pitched sound, more will cause lower pitched sound. You can gain alot out of the shape of a box too.
