well in the past month i broke my box and had to upgrade to a 1" MDf box and then here just the other day i ended up blowing the sub too. so here is my new replacement.
AudioPipe TXX-SQ1500 SQ(sound quality) 1200watt RMS 15" sub

this baby is massive

i had a pic of it next to my old sub but it accidently got deleted. rest assured though its much larger then the last one.
this sub actually has a very odd shaped foam to it though. instead of your typical 1-2" thick foam this is only about 1/2" wide but it sits almost 1 1/4" HIGH. this actually allows this 15" to stay nice and tight and keep that very clean sound to it.

also while i was there i picked up this lil baby for when i get my other amp in the car

thats bout 200 farads i cant be messing around with this lil capacitor deals because they dont do the job really.
i'm just testing the sub right now for the rest of the week to see if i'll keep it. i was a lil put off by the fact that its RMS is lower then my old sub (used to have 1600watts but now its onlu 1200)but at the shop my guy tried to blow one up and he put a 3000RMS load on it and the sub acted like it wasnt fazed at all. so we will see how it works out at the end of test drive. i'll let you guys know what happend.

Clif use that surround also..
Tip, next time you build a box use birch ply.
Irs damn expensive but, its lighter than MDF and has a MUCH beffer resonance, so can take alot more vibration than MDF.
You will notice that the cabinet made from birch will sound better (I know its hard to imagine) than MDF.
MDF really isnt all that, its just very easy to work with and cheap.

lighter box = box moves. Heavier box = car moves. If the box moves then sound is lost. if the car moves, sound is gained.
use fiberglass if you build a new one. it's fun to work with.

finished fiberglass is actually super dense. it's just you use way less because its so much stronger, so it usually ends up being lighter. heavy or not, you want the box to be solid to the car because vibrations just damper energy.

It's very easy to think that, I mean it makes sense.
It is however wrong.
James B Lansing and Gene Czerwinski (JBL and Cerwin Vega !) both went to school together to study acoustics.
And, it was found that cabinet resonance ADDS to the sound.
Think about an acoustic guitar and how thin and hollow they are, yet they make sound...
If the whole cabinet is making a sound it's more sound. Sound out of the speaker only resonates into anything around it, thus being absorbed and lost..
Youll note that on very high end acoustic speakers (like Boston, Alyson and so on) they all use Birch, Cherry or some other expensive wood.. Note how they never use hardwoods like Redwood?
Every single box plan ever sent to me by Cerwin Vega insisted on Birchply, it took me months to find it in the UK and it ran around $120 for a 8x4 sheet lol..
We used it a few times, and every time it sounded fantastic, even on 3 JL W6 8's in a sealed box.

that makes no sence pandy... if you displace air with the speaker and the box is moving along with it, then you are canceling out the sound. I agree that cabinet resonance adds to sound... In a BOSE system.. not something that you make yourself. A box is going to be a box and all standard laws of physics apply. If it's not bolted down, it needs to be heavy.
TibbyO1: my box is about 50LBS.
