On the Head Unit I would diff go with Alpine (bought mine about 4 months ago, and boy is it awesome)

amp, I have a kenwood 1000watt (isnt the greatest but it hits.)

and subs ( 2 12'w2's JL's "granted they are kinda old, but my car slames.)

*and by slaming not into a tree

but diff get a Apline headunit you wont regret that.

cool.. thanks for the info guys..

so you would say start by choosing a good head unit, then subs, and lastly would be an amp right?

would it be better to have one 15" or two 10"s?
the reason i ask this is because i don't want two subs.. i want to keep the weight factor as low as possible so i'm not weighing down my car..

another question is, whats the difference between having a closed and open box?

Get a good HU first. Your best bet is to get the subs, amp and cap all at once to compliment each other. You just can't have one without the others. Two quality 10s and you won't even notice the difference in the weight.

Closed(sealed) vs Open(ported) You'll want to go with a closed(sealed) box. Simply because it's easier to work with and for the most part produces the same results. The thing to watch for is the size recommended by the manufacturer.

all are good suggestions.

i agree with everyone who says JL AUDIO.

i have 2 jl 12w3d4 subs. they are awesome and im about to sell them to get a couple of w7's

JL makes the best all around sounding subs. they go good with all music.

amps? amps are pretty much amps...depends on what you're looking for in an amp. im more basic when it comes to amps. i have 3 rockford amps. good power. just get a nice name brand amp and you'll be good. jl makes awesome amps with lots of features. depends on what you're looking for.

decks? dont go with panasonic. they're just like having a really nice stock deck. i just got a Kenwood deck.....excelon of course...and i must say. its pretty damn awesome. lots and lots of features to get the sound perfectly the way you want it. if you dont like messing with to many options and would prefer a menu with just treble and bass...then go with panasonic. alpine/eclipse/kenwood are all in the same category. i just think alpine looks like crap.

components? well i've been through MB quarts, Orions, and Alpines....
my orions were the cheapest yet the most powerful. i was pushing 200w to each channel and they handled very nicely. alpines i have in the car now are better for quality. they still handle a lot of power but arent as hard hitting but they sound awesome. im probably going to buy another set of alpines.

if you have any other quesions let me know. and if you find someting in particular let me know and i'll see if i can get a better price for you.

here are the model numbers for what ive got and the prices....

Kenwood Excelon X889 HU $230 shipped
Alpine Type X 177r Components $250 shipped
Orion P6 Comnponents $ 180 shipped
JL Audio (2) 12w3d4 $250 shipped
Rockford 300.4/400.4/800.2 dont remember
