^^That's why I moved my alarm LED from the rear view mirror to the center console. On the mirror it could be seen from a long ways away through the windshield, and it attracted too much attention. I actually saw people go out of their way to look in my car (I park in a bad area). No need to advertise that you have something worth stealing. Now you need to be close to the car to see the LED, but it's still very bright.

I would personally mount an EL or LED scanner low, like on the center console, instead of on a door or top of the dash. Anyone peering in would still notice it before smashing a window.

Speaking of security, I wonder if there's a way for my alarm to go off or give a warning tone when someone tries the door handle. Maybe there's a way to use a hood pin for that.

definately. there are tons of things you could use to rig that sucker up. you'd have to look at the handle though internally and figure something out.
