Very, intersting.
I just went to autozone, closest around here without a 10 min drive just to check them out of curiousity. They want 29.99$ for a LED tube like you just described.
Insane retailers.

The scanner hooks up the same way, that my single LED example hooks up like
Scanners are usually three wires, and I was guessing he'd want it to show his actual alarm status and not be a dummy light. Although that's a good idea for people who don't actually have alarms.

The best things i've see are the EL Glow light that dei has. They are a bright blue. You can see it from about a mile away. I love mine. They are like 20. But hard to find. when i go back to the states i'll see if i can take some good pics at night.

Those things are indeed cool. I gues you are referring to the DEI ELS600. I'd get on if I could find a way to have it flush-mounted. I haven't seen them sell for less than $25.
Speaking of flush-mounted alarm LEDs, here is what a $14 LED looks like:
Just came in the mail (along with the new G5 style remote with blue LED). I couldn't find a non-clifford in the exact same size, and I already have the stock LED flush-mounted on the shifter surround. Ah well. Talk about overpricing.

It may be to late to post this but Ive seen many times on eBay scanners that connect so they automatically turn on when you turn off the car. basicaly anytime the alarm would be on, the scanner is on. just something to think about. just go out to ebay and type in alarm scanner or something similar.

Yep. You can use those even if you don't have an alarm. I think that's a good idea, since a thief will probably move on to another car when they see that. They can also show the real status of an alarm with a simple relay, which I would prefer, so I can look out my window for visual confirmantion of my alarm being armed at night.
I did a bit of research on scanners as well, and if they have 5 LEDs or less they can usually be powered by the alarm brain without the need for a relay. On older alarms, however, they will be dim without the use of a relay.

Never seen those before, but I did hook up a blue LED to my alarm. This is a BRIGHT LED, its a 5mm led 6v and it blinds you if you look directly at it.
At night, the whole inside of the car flashes, its preety good.

yeah, it creates an image on the windsheild.
course then youre just asking for someone to fvck with your car. sure, nothing will get stolen, but you know people these days. if they cant have something nice, they dont want anyone else to have it.
