You could probably still use that spot if you wanted, unless you cut off the 4 screw holes, which would make for a lot more work. It does look like your buttons extend farther down than those on my Xenarc. I considered removing the button panel entirely and just tucking them behind the LCD since I have a remote, but maybe they will be useful. I still have hopes of using the two volume buttons to control system volume.

I hope you both post some shots once it's painted and installed. Right now I'm planning to paint part of my dash and the shifter surround along with the fascia, since I don't think I can match the current gloss black finish with paint. Seems like that would be the easiest way.

 

I left the screw holes there. I have considered just cutting out a slot for the dvd to pass through into the slot load thin drive. I will take some pictures and post them tonight, it looks alot better than the previous picture now.

tibby01, try googling relay boards, and also searching mp3car. A little bit of work has been done, but mostly by the guys who really know how to program, as there is no "one size fits all" solution for climate control.

There is a guy at mp3car.com working on a serial climate control system. I don't know all the details, but I know that it can set the blower speed. What would be cool is to set up a script linked to a thermistor that turns up the AC if a certain temperature is detected. Shouldn't be too difficult since most modern motherboards can do this to a certain degree.

Here is the most recent picture of mine. I just need to do a little more sanding, a coat of primer, and then final paint.

 

To tell you the truth, not too hard to build for cheap. All you'll need are probably a set of thermistors or some sort of temperature gauging sensor, you'll need a PIC (mostly b/c I'm digitally-biased rather than analog)...possibly an LCD matrix that would let you display temperature settings and allow you to adjust them.

With the PIC...you'll need some background in programming with ASM. Basically, find a PIC that has an A/D converter (analog-to-digital), so it converts your readings from the thermistor/temp sensor to some digital code. Then you basically have outputs that control your heater and A/C, and set the program to obviously turn on the A/C if your desired temperature is above your set temperature. If it's below your set temp, then the heater kicks in.

And what's great, is that you can set the outputs to vary the voltage to those units, kinda like your manual knobs for heater and A/C. I'd do up a schematic...but I'd need an incentive. I'm sure www.discoverycircuits.com have something you're looking for. Just look for temperature related circuits, and I'm sure someone's already done it.

Not bad. I was thinking about doing something like that, but a mucho smaller system that would basically communicate with the AEM EMS, so that way, I can manually load maps to the EMS, and even get some other info to show up. That way, if I wanted to setup a "Valet mode", I'd just switch on a map that would use lower boost so the damn valet punks won't decide to abuse the turbo.

 

I think that's the way to go anyways, and my plan is to do that eventually, maybe get a nice DVD-RW slot load. cool.gif But for now I'm using a standard CD-ROM tray load since I have it.
