7 Inch Touchscreen Molded In Dash
#1
Some of you may have seen my carputer install at mp3car.com.
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread...?threadid=27692
I showed it off a bit in my intro and it was also linked from here by another user a while back. I decided i wanted to mold my 7 inch touchscreen into my dash, here's some pics. There are some imperfections, but it's my first time using body filler, I hope you enjoy the pics. Oh oh, BTW i have an RD1.

lookin good java, just sand sand sand, sand some more! Some helpful tools are a razor blade and sanding block, and also Bondo Spot/Glazing compound to fill in small imperfections at the end and to smooth it out.
Thanks for all the positive feedback, hopefully i get my car running this week and the carputer going. Could be a great week, beside the fact that my friend just stood me up. sad.gif Oh well offtopic.gif . Thanks again i'll be posting more pics in the general showroom when my car comes together a bit more. Bye!

You did a really nice job on it, looks OEM quality man.
How do you like it molded in? Isn't it hard to see? it doesn't look like you angled it at all.
I am going to use an in-dash motorized screen, do you think it will cover up any of the climate control buttons?
I have my 7" screen here, just waiting to get some more money then I will start my setup smile.gif

I haven't taken any new photos of mine, but I have sanded the first layer of primer. It was hell getting the warped sections of bezel straight but it's perfect now. Hint: always have a piece of glass or acrylic installed in place of the screen when molding. Had I done that, there would be no warping.
Java, no cdrom in place of the cupholder eh? Where will you put it? Are you going to use the ashtray for anything? I have decided against molding my case in where the ashtray is, that's as good as advertising to thieves. Harder to steal but more of a pain for me to remove when I need to.
Early pre-filler photo below. But it shows how much I angled mine:

It slipped my mind when I was filling it. The thing was the lilliput controls extended halfway down through the cupholder area. I'll find a place to put the drive...
