In The Process Of A 5spd Swap...
There is a VIN on almost every part of the car I just can't remember where it is supposed to be on the tranny. Once you find it, if you don't already know, count the 8th digit from the right which should be the 10th digit from the left, and that's the year. V = '97, W = '98, X = '99, Y = '00, 1 = '01, etc., etc.
I figured I'd mention how to find the year from the VIN because you'd be surprised at how many people can't read a VIN...

does anybody have a manual transmission mount laying around? I need them to measure the distance between the two holes... the bracket holes are closer together than the holes on the tranny.

I dont, but im assuming your talking about the mount on top of the tranny, i dont forsee a problem redrilling if you can.
he must have got a beta 2 tranny? i believe thats the only tranny where modifications are needed to fit...

ok, as far as the mounts go, here is what you need.. you need the mounts used for the beta tib, and put them on the beta II transmission, and you need to grind one of the mounts smooth, it has a brace on it. does the auto trans mount differently or something? are your mounts slotted? or do they just have a hole in it?
can you take pics of the mounts for me.

I'll work on getting the pics for you... it's in my cousin's garage right now, still on jack stands
The mounts aren't flush, as needed. There is a bend where the contours fit to the automatic. The holes are also too wide and it scares me redrilling holes, as it would turn into one big hole where the bolt could move.
Tranny that I have -- requires flat mount to fit flush
Mounts that I have -- nowhere near flat; looks like diagram below

that's what I've been trying to figure out.
We have a MANUAL TRANNY mount for the TOP...
Do we need MANUAL TRANNY mounts for the front and rear? The ones that will eventually bolt onto the lower brace?
And while you're at it... why don't you send me the instructions on how to remove the TOB from the clutch, in case that ever happens again. Do you have to remove the TOB from the Clutch everytime you take the tranny off? (if we take the tranny off, will we be stuck with the TOB in the clutch?)
The side transmission mount is already bolted up... we used a manual mount for that one. I was told that was the only mount we'd have to replace

oh i see what your saying, your on the front and rear mounts, were gonna need some pix, and i think it might be related to the year of the tranny, worst case id grab some mounts from a newer elantra and take em back if they dont work...
And for the clutch, yes, everytime you take the tranny off you have to remove the TOB off the PP, im sooooo glad i learned how to do it. Ive done it about 4-5 times, and i can do it in under 2 minutes now.
Selinas got a stock PP and a TOB and ill see if i can make a video DIY when she gets her car back (should be soon, since its running now, its getting dyno tuned on tuesday)
