When i put regular gas(89 octane), the car runs like crap over 5000rpm. My ecu doesn't manage the knock sensor so it doesn't adjust itself timing wise. When I use 91 or 94 octane, she runs nice and smooth. I'm pretty sure that if you used crappy, low octane fuel that it could be the source of your problems.

that is a good point... nothing less than 93 octane has ever been in my car since I bought it new (no clue what was in it from the dealer) I know a lot of people say that the Beta is perfectly happy on 88 or 89 octane.. but then I see these same people getting bad miliage per tank and other complaints about lack of power and drivability.

My tib gets a steady diet of 93 octane and she pulls hard in every gear and still gets an average of 31 mpg with each fill up.

here is new stuff i noticed abuot the car that is starting to confuse me. I noticed that when I hit 5500rpm on the gauge now it sounds like as if im hitting 6000rpm+ before I put the 1.8 cam in. And one scary thing is that at 80mph im only hitting 5500rpm in 3rd???? I could have sworn 80mph in 3rd was like tops at redline.

80 in third gear should be at about 6k. at least thats where it is w/ my mods.

I'll list them for you :

AEM CAI
Nology Hotwires
Denso Iridium Plugs
1.8L intake cam

Thats it, no TB coolant bypass, no headers, no exhuast.

the 1.8L intake cam does change the sound of incoming air......but i dont think it changed mine quite that much.....but its hard to tell since i had it put in AFTER my CAI.

I installed the beta2 intake cam in my beta one today laugh.gif
The change was very subtle. I can rev at 7000rpm, before, it was only used in 2-3 gear, in fourth and fifth, it was no use, I shitfed at 6700rpm in fourth and never went over 6000rpm in fifth because of the speed limiter. Now, I can use the extra rpm in 2-3-4.

My car runs just fine. A tiny bit more rough at idle but its really minor. It runs on 94.

Just got in from driving it hard and I just relized its the change from the old stock 2.0 intake cam basically cutting the power past 5500rpm and the new 1.8cam just lets it rev to 6500rpm like nothing. everything seems fine now its just weird how the 1.8cam adds more rev and power but somehow makes the powerband feel more smooth from 3000-65000rpm.

how can you make a beta 1 rev to 7000rpm and is it even safe on our valve train.

putting in the 1.8 cam more or less gets you to F2Evo specs for the street... they hit peak power at 5700 rpms.. I think stick 2.0 hits at 5300

I can rev to 7000rpm because I am not using a 2.0l ecu wink.gif
Yes, it is safe on the valve train.
