I see you are in New Jersey as well... if you are close to the southern end of the state, maybe we can get together next weekend and take a look? I have the same mods you do (with the exception of the CAI.. mine is not an AEM) so our cars should run similar.

I also have the 1.8 cam in, though my ECU is pretty different. Anyway, it shouldn't take more than a few miles (have an hour of normal driving tops) to adjust, mine did.
As for your problems, I don't think the exhaust is the problem, any Tib 100% OEM get's to the redline, so the OEM stock could rob some performance, but it's not the reason why you don't get there without failure.
I would be inclined to think it's the cam install what went wrong, are you 100% sure you didn't miss a tooth on either the timming belt or the chain that connects both camshafts?
Did you meassure adjusting torque on every bolt when you secured the cam back in (overtightening could be VERY harmful).
Did you check the camshaft itself did not have any problem on the little mark that triggers spark/inject fuel?
If you are possitive all that went OK, check electrical conectors/wiring to your MAF, and the air temp sensor, you could also have your spark wires fixed not to tight... just do the install on reverse process to check every possible failure.
I hope you find the problem... because it's a great mod, adds a different kind of feeling in the after4000rpm life.

I've read in past posts, I think on HP or HA about having problems after a cam swap. I remember a couple of people saying you need to adjust your air to fuel ratio.

which you cant do unless you have some type of AFC but still the 1.8 cam is a oem hyundai part so i would think the ECU should be able to adjust itself

Default Re: Fuel Management

my tank of gas is almsot empty and im filling up with some good stuff this time to see if its the problem. Aroudn here we got supermarket places that sells gas thats mad cheap and is trash so once I fill up with some exxon i'll check it out.

As for the cam swap we took the exact mark of the old cam and marked it with a black marker then once we took out teh 2.0 cam we put in the 1.8 cam same way the 2.0 came out with the 4 teeth between the 2 marks on each one or 5 pitch if ya wanna call it that. only thing I noticed was on the cam chain itself when we took it off there was one cam chain tooth that was colored yellow but even the original 2.0 cam wasnt on that tooth that was colored.
its confusing but im almost 100% sure we did the install right.

the torque on the cams we did with a torque stick to hmaservice specs only thing still that is bugging me is that one yellow colored chain tooth but i dont get why the old cam wouldnt be on that one colored tooth. hope these guys when they did my timing belt didnt get stupid and decide to mess around and make it so the cam is retarted back a tiny bit.

I noticed though with this cam is did get rid of the deadspot somewhat and highend is faster but i noticed some torque loss even though everyone swears it gains torque.

I can't see why you're haveing these probs :?
I did the swap with no ecu reset or run-in time, with no probs smile.gif
It ran rough at 1st so I let it sit at idle 4 bout 5 min until the idle settled down. She's run beaut since. 8)
Does sound like something's holding her back 02.gif

Default Re: Which Generation your favorite?

it seems like its running better now that im almost on empty with my current tank of gas. I got a reason to believe it was the shitty ass gas I have in it and after today or tonight im gonna put in some good stuff.

with a new intake cam would putting premium make any difference?
