Whats a better engine to drop into an Accent? The Beta 1 or 2? I always thought they were the same for the most part. Is there any reason to choose one over the other?
SUPPOSEDLY the beta 2 has a slightly stronger block, the head design is a little better
but im not sure how the harness connects to the accent harness it might be easier to install a beta 2 engine using beta 1 sensors

It depends on which Accent. A Beta I is better for an X3, a Beta II is better for a LC/LC2. The reasoning is compatibility, the LC/LC2 1.6l ECU will run the Beta II engine. The Beta I ECU will plug into an X3's harness and run the Beta I.
I would like to note that the LC Alpha ecm runs the Beta2, but your going to give up a good amount of low end torque. Ive seen it running along side a beta swapped accent in my elantra, a dyno on another website, and can feel it driving the thing then driving my heavier beta powered car. It nails the air/fuel so the problem must be timing. So you end up with the same peak hp, but your powerband is smaller. Don't shift to soon, heh.
