the fact is...more agressive cam equals same output. that fact cant be argued. sorry

Do you even realise how many variables you are ignoring in your summation of an engine's worth? Let me start: power production other than at maximum revs, fuel economy, quantity of emissions gear, NVH...

Did you seriously just compare two engines on peak hp figures?

thank you wheels

also the beta 2s final production HP rating was a corrected 138hp (thats with cvvt mind you, remember the beta 2 went up until 2008)

the beta 1s final production was rated at 132-135hp depending on source

so...with a more aggressive cam the beta 2 had more hp, better gas mileage, a lighter motor (aluminum oil pan, the 03 noncvvt had a lighter cylinder head) , a stronger block, and NO f*cking TICK TICK TICK GARBAGE HLAs

so yes

the beta 2 was better than the beta 1

My understanding of the Beta2 cam was that it looses some low rpm and mid range power and torque, compared to the 1.8 intake cam. The 1.8 cam barely lifts any higher, but does have a longer duration, so though peak gains are low, mid-range gains are good. The Beta2 was more aggressive as the planned vvt would give back the lost the mid range grunt when it altered timing, but the vvt took longer than planned to get right, hence a couple years of non-vvt Beta2s.

As for quoted power, I know an ex-hyundai manager, who spent time with Hyundai in korea, as well as being part of the F2 Evo projects with MSD. He saw a Beta1 make 138 on a dyno in Korea, and 145 BHP with the 1.8 intake cam in. Having said that, it maybe that different countries emissions laws mean different maps, or in some cases different parts used. I know our UK cats are more restrictive than your ones, some even have Uk bhp figures down as low as 125!
