Hyundai Accent Forum The Hyundai Accent Forum. Hyundai's little champ. While the Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Excel may be small, they respond very well to aftermarket modifications and is among the favorites for Hyundai tuners.

Default Alpha Questions

1. This question is related to one of the specifications of the 1.6l Alpha (G4ED). I know bore (76.5mm) and stroke (87mm), but I do not know the connecting rod length. Can somebody enlighten me on what this might be? I cannot seem to find this value on hmaservice.com's webtech.

2. I am a little confused about the 1.5l dohc Alpha engine (G4EK? I notice it is common in Australia). Some sources indicate it is 12 valve, others 16 valve. I realize both may exist. How simillar is the (if it exists of course) 1.5l 16v dohc to the 1.6l 16v dohc?

I may be wrong, but I have always been under the impression that the SOHC Alphas were 12-valve & the DOHC are 16-valvers.

Go to webtech, select Accent, 1998 or 1999, 1.5l DOHC, go to Engine Mechanical System, General, Specifications, and it lists the engine as a 12 Valve. After a closer look, it's just an error on Webtech, and that is the link to the SOHC engine (page id 9419)

if the 1997 dohc cam specificaitons contain a typo as I now believe it does, both cams are identical for the 1.6 and 1.5 dohc engines.

The only way to find Con-Rod Length is to remove a con rod and measure it, or get your hands on a "spare" or "new" unit and measure it.

Con-Rod length is usually NOT in the published specs of a motor.

The rods are the same between the DOHC Alphas. Also the cams are different. The only difference between the new 1.5L & 1.6L DOHC motors are the pistons & crank.
