I would only reccomend the alpine kit as a "starter" kit. For someone who does not want BIG hp, or for someone who wants to modifiy it themself.

If you are planning on going Turbo, Pick up corky bell's book "Maximum Boost" BEFORE you decide on a turbo.

If you plan on going with Nitrous, or are unsure as to if you want to go with Nitrous, Supercharging, or Turbo, get this.

Supercharging, Turbocharging, & Nitrous Oxide Performance Handbook (Powerpro)

How much does the Zex kit cost to install?, or can it be somewhat easily done at home? And thanks for those book suggestions Random, ill be sure to check them out. I really wanna go turbo, but its just so pricy, theres really no other way that I can get into the 190 range other then spending 5 grand?!

MyLilTibby2001, if you are talking about 190 WHP you have to spend more than a grand to reach that level. If you are talking about 190 HP @ 5-6K RPM, then you can reach that level just by installing $500 Zex kit (I think). I think the company (Zex) says that you can install it by yourself, although I am not sure how confident you are at installing this kind of modification. Just get some prof. help if you can't install or afraid that you might install something wrong. I would personally go to see prof. and get advices from him.

Zex install is fairly easy. It is more than possible to install yourself, using a few links and previous articles posted here.

Well ...after seeing all my options this is really going to prove to cost way more money than I expected to pay for 200 horses. But thanks for all your input, you guys really helped me out a bunch.

None of the zex kits will get you to 200 Wheel HP. NONE. Even the 75 shot kit will not do it, and with that, you are looking at a fuel pump upgrade. You could get CLOSE with a 75 shot, but realistically, you'd get between 170 and 190 Wheel HP.

Another thing to consider is the amount of power you really *need* in a car this size/weight. A 200WHP 1.8L engine in a Civic DX (around 2400lbs + driver and fuel) can give an LS6 a really good scare from a roll, at least until the Civic runs out of gearing (130-140mph) and then the Formula will walk right on past.

200WHP in a Tiburon wouldn't be quite that fast, but it would certainly be enough to scare quite a few other people. The newest 225HP Mustangs wouldn't be an issue, but you still couldn't keep up with the Formula crowd.

You need considerably less power in these cars not only because of the weight, but because of the incredibly short gearing. However, while the short gearing definately helps with the acceleration, it also makes you lose on top-end speed.

Oh well, enough rambling, time to go do something productive. smile.gif
