that would require taking the tranny off than putting it back together than taking it back apart to install new parts. isnt there any other easier way?

I just got off the phone with Fidanza they do make two seperate Flywheels for the 2.0L Beta's

193141 for post 6/99 with the 35mm mounting
193241 for pre 6/99 with the 41mm mounting

The 193141 will fit 6/99 and newer Elantra and Tiburon including the 01-03 Elantra and 03 Tib with 4Cyl

The 193241 will fit the 6/99 and older Elantra and Tib with 2.0L. I can't say for sure if it will work on the 1.8L however.

According to some information from FXTreme, the 1.8L and 2.0L engines (pre-06/99 that is) use a different part number on the flywheel BUT are cross-compatible.

The 1.8L used a slightly lighter flywheel design than the 2.0L did, hence the seperate part number. The bolt pattern and mounting surfaces are identical.

RED??? Question? Is the stroke the same? On both 1.8 and 2.0 and could the 1.8crank than be used without flaw in a 2.0 block?

Bore is the same, block is the same, bot stroke is not. With the same block but shorter stroke, this necessitates longer rods.

What does this have to do with flywheels?
