majik...yeah....it doesnt matter what color he gets sprayed (except black of course)....if you add a very small amount of colored top coat to the clear, and spray it, you will have a translucent color and it will still show the CF weaves. smile.gif

zoned, yeah man i totally was all for the cadamuro hood. but this hood is simply perfect. i mean if you look at it this way, it has more functions that just a few.

1. it's lightweight. i felt a noticeable difference in acceleration. 60lbs is a lot compared to 15lbs.
2. carbon fiber can bend to a point whereas fiberglass cannot. you can literally put your hand on the hood and it will flex back just like plastic. not to mention it's twice as strong as fiberglass. my fiberglass bumper is just prickled with stonechips and not a scratch on my hood.
3. the evo vent is riiiight over my high rise header, the gt maintec header comes right up to the vent therefore soo much heat comes out of the car that way, the engine temp is cooler than normal.
4. the tilt on the front of tthe vent acts as a bug shield. i took the car to florida and there were no bugs on the windshield!
5. i got the hood locally, so i saved $100.

i was thinking of selling it for someone who would appreciate the fiber and the hood equally (like for a black tiburon or just in general) but then i'd be without a hood and i would lose $100 and get something worse material than what i have. and i'm not getting rid of the car anytime soon i love it.

swift, thanks! i should have pictures but it's been raining all week. the fiberglass evo bumper has so many dings from debris and the paint wasn't the best job in the world. it's got some ripples, some cracks, and clear coat is nearly gone in some places. i wax the car for the picures though wink1.gif i will keep the carbon fiber for about another month until i really start thinking if it's worth it.

i like silent and visionz thoughts... wondering what that would look like with just a hint of clear coat mix so from far away you wouldn't notice the carbon fiber but when you look close you see there's carbon fiber under there...

jerz, yeah i always liked those two tone color hoods for some reason. it would work with the tiburons since the shape just brings you in and it is kind of race-like. however i've always loved that viper look you know? another thing is i'd still be called "the guy with the wierd hood" hahaha. good thought though, i'll think about that one...

majik that's a nice m3! i can't wait for the new ones... see if you're wicked fast like that then you can paint the car anyway you like lmao.gif

With that vent location, are there any concerns about water pouring on a hot header when it rains? Or do you just get a lot of steam?

I would say paint it, I don't care for the unpainted cf hood with most paint colors anyway, although I do think it looks good with black and white cars. You will still have the weight savings you were after without all the flashiness. Should I get a cf hood, it will be painted before it's even installed.

painting cf is pointless man..

do what oz said.

sell it and buy an fg one from chris, not only are you helping chris out and giving someone else a good deal on a cf hood, but also getting what you want.

OR use the money for a TRANNY SWAP!

Fonseca is right. As he says, with that vent location, rain water pouring on a hot header will ruin the finish (As in turn it dirt brown), and it will screw the actual metal of the header to hell. Pouring cool water on a piece of metal thats in the high hundred, if not thousand, degrees really isn't that healthy for it. I really wouldn't want to screw the finish and cut the life of the header, especially a $700 one.

^ I think that'd only be an issue if the header was fully submerged in cold water... That might crack the metal. Other than that, there should be no issues with a few drops of rain or even a relatively heavy down-pour.

Maybe cracking at that moment, but over long periods of time it can't be good for it. Dunno, not a metal expert.

I do know the finish will get messed up, as I know of people that while washing the car left the motor running, and water got on the headers ruining the finish.

Your car looks hot now. Would be even better with a red clear/top coat. Not a big fan of the red tib/black hood combo. I'll be doing the same when I get my new hood.

I may be wrong about this but i don't think you can add just any color to the clear and spray...i think that would make it spray really splotchy. The only way i know of doing it is if you spray a Kandy color over it since the Kandy color is transparant it will show the carbonfiber through the kandy and will tint the cf whatever color you picked.

Here is an example of a Ford Zx2 that was painted Kandy Brandywine and they did the hood as well

The pics are underthe rides section....its the first red car.

That is what i would do or am going to do...hehe

hamhead, i think hkc has his headers coated from jet hot, so that's a non issue.
