QUOTE
Random:
The CF hood I had was from TC Spoilers (its the unit batlord has now). It was 7.5 lbs.

The Zefiro Fiberglass hood is 14lbs. So roughly double the weight.

The stock hood was 48 lbs (gen1). The gen2 hood should be lighter in all versions, as it is smaller.

The CF hood from TC spoilers "bucked" and "flexed" at freeway speeds. It was rather thin with no center braceing across the center of the hood. That is why it flexed at speed. Only the top part of the hood was CF. The bottom "bracing" was fiberglass.

The Zefiro hood does not have the flex problem, but it is also much thicker, and has more under bracing.

For the weight trade off, I'm more than happy with the Zefiro.

Again, considering I paid $500+ for the Zefiro, that ebay hood for $250 is a STEAL jaw_drop
hey random, i know you said that the carbon fiber hood is just carbon laid on top of a fiberglass shell, you can't find any hood on the market that has a full carbon fiber shell. Fiber images hoods are the same exact way.most race cars just use full carbon front ends because its easier to do then make a carbon frame for the hood then make the whole bumper. most the time the fiberglass is used to brace things like where the hood bolts up and where the hood latch is. On our kore/class glass hood it is the same way and i'm sure only weighs about 7-8 pounds. The more fiberglass bracing underneath the more prone it is to cracking under pressure whereas carbon fiber will flex more without cracking as seen in the fiber images videos where they jump on it and run it over with a car...... as seen on www.fiberimages.com Class glass the manufactuers of kore's hoods made the new srt-4 neon drag car from phatrydez's hood the same way. its just the easier to get around it. And i know i'm kinda late on this, but i read a post on how the carbon fiber hoods are a US trend, look into any japenese aftermarket manufacturer and you will see just as many or more cars with carbon fiber hoods/body parts. We are just following the trend, just as they are catching on to our "altezza" styled taillight trend. Sorry for the long post but i like this site, haven't been here in awhile so i'll be here more often. by the way i'm andy over at hp.com. later people

import shark you know you get dibs on everything i do for the tibbys i was waiting untill it was done to get ya in on it, redz that will be great the sooner the better. and feel free to spread the word, probly going to be the same price as my other tibby hoods and i will be making only bolt on hoods that pin in the front....

one more thing though on the glass vrs. carbon, a quality handlaid glass hood will be very close to the durabilty of carbon, resin is what makes glass brittle. with a chopped hood the resin content is 3-4 times higher then the hoods i make, also i rivial most other hand laid hoods due to the fact many chop the hood and then roll it out quickly to remove some exesses resin, by then it is two late.... when it comes to glass or carbon manufactures, the key is this.... quality or quanity, and the products they use... chopped glass is junk and has given the glass industry a bad name. but it is quick and easy. if you want a 100- 200 dollar hood expect to get what you pay for..... sorry to go on a rant but just want you all to know whats up and not get ripped off.
