My Custom Led Purge Attempt
Thats not rice at all... It'll definitley look good... Its not like our cars are race cars, you've got to have style or else you'll just be slow AND look dumb... So how's it feel, HUGE difference or just expected? Keep up the good work!

i always thought LED purge was damn awesome but it should come out of some vent somewhere like from under the hood somewhere but not washers!! pit them in the front grille and scare people at stoplights hahaha. good luck adamo

Dude, 5MPH rolling start -> 35mph chirping the whole time in first, shift chirp, 2nd wheel hop while clutch engauges, 3rd power. It feels more powerful overall. I'm running a 75 shot. It was recommended to retard timing 4 degrees, but i assume that as long as I don't put in a 1.8L cam, i should be fine using the ECU's ping sensor.

thats rice but what the hell its still cool. people at a stoplight would be like wtf?! fing02.gif
when i pull up to the gate at Ft. Jackson, I purge if I was using it because the MPs told me I wasn't allowed to use it on post. So when i'm done, i'll shut it off, and then purge right before the gate. The gate gaurds are like WTF?!?

Looks awesome dude, get a video!
I do think you should have had it somewhere besides the wipers, but it looks pretty good so far. Maybe you could add some more other places too!

Well, round 2 went poorly today. I built the new style LED purge illuminator (picture below), hooked it up and dry-purged the system to test it a few times. 3 LEDs went out durring testing. I hooked it up and purged it really quickly, but I'm sure it was nothing like what it will look like when i manage to get the LEDs working..
It turns out that the reverse EMF of the inductor that powers the purge solenoid has a HUGE reverse EMF inductive kickback. With the size and weight of the coil, I'm assuming at least 20,000V reverse EMF. I really should have thought about it, or the engineers of the solenoid should have thought about it.. either way, i feel like a jackass.
So I replaced all of the blown LEDs and resistors, added a reverse EMF diode to protect it all, and it should be ready to go as soon as I get some light to work with.

Round 1 failed because of the precision cuts and rapid heating and cooling. Round 2 because of electromagnetic feedback from the solenoid,Tomorrow it's round 3.. Hopefully 3rd time's a charm.

^^ that's expensive and/or difficult, not to mention you loose alot of the depressurization flash from the n20 by extending the tubes out. It could be done, but I don't clearly see a good way of doing it. The center purge was the most easily identified method.
I could have another LED purge made, rewire both anywhere in the car, but that still leaves how to get the purge to another location. How/where to route the tubes cleanly is another question.
Where would you put the purge?
