So a local place opened up which does laser etching. I figured, what the hell... I need some holes cut in a piece of plastic. I brought my hand-made prototype down and we came up with a real soloution for the problem. I speciffied that I wanted 3.1MM holes and it needs to clip onto my purge valve. I supplied the acryllic. The guy worked with me and didn't have a problem because the machine does all the work and he's not using his own material, he's using mine. We made alot of prototypes before I was completely satisfied.

The tip of my purge valve is made of a BIC pen. It looks good, and you'd never be able to tell it was anything other then a threaded piece of plastic. It looks good and that's all that matters. Otherwise it would be a piece of metalic pipe. BTW... the pictures show nitrous purge dust. When you purge nitrous, it flashes to white and freezes. It will evaporate soon.

Anyways... I start putting LEDs in this sucker The holes were cut precicely to the size of an LED at 60 degrees with a micrometer and autocad. It's now a bit warmer out and the plastic has enlarged, making the holes smaller. Note to self... tell dude to make holes 3.1mm AGAIN!

So i'm intermittently purging the sucker, and all the sudden the 2 LEDs that are actually mounted start pointing the wrong direction durring testing.. Well, the nitrous froze the plastic and the tollerence became smaller. I'm going to use a different material next time. The plastic pieces on the bottom should work well because they're not as brittle as acryllic.

I'll keep this thread updated with my next attempt.. This was $15 down the drain. Once this project is completed, and actually pases testing, if anyone wants a LED purge, let me know, I'll have the guy make another one. It's only across the street from where I live, and I can have one shipped pretty darn cheap comparied to the large manufacturers. It's small enough that it will fit in the space between the washers and the cowling without hitting, which means you won't have to drill a hole in your hood for a purge valve.

btw... it was supposed to be 6 LEDs as opposed to ZEX and NOS's 2 LED purge valves. And also when the tollerences became smallere because of the freezing nitrous, the plastic broke. I'll make a new one and see what happens.

Pat, yeah. Right out of the center. It looked cool as hell for about a minute with just 2 LEDs. I can't wait until I get 6 of those bad-boys rockin'.

Purging isn't rice for the record though. Before you use nitrous, you need to purge the system so that you get the settled/separated nitrous out of the lines. It will cause you to bog down for about 1/2 seccond if you don't purge after having nitrous in the lines for 1 hour or more. I've gone through a tank and a half now. It's pretty annoying when you forget to purge.

Hah... that would be cool. Powered by LEDs... Some SM LEDs would work good for that. And I could have the guy who does acryllic across the street make it for me. That's a bit too ricey for me though.

Right, purging isn't a ricer thing, using it to show off and LIGHTING up the purge blue, now that's the definition of rice.

^^ damn straight. It cost between $0.10 - $35 each time I touch that button. It better look good.

Do you really think an LED mod to a purge is rice?

Maybe it is rice.. I never thought of it like that. More like, if you're going to waste money, you should at least have some style to it.

Well, it's like $50 for the LED purge kit from ZEX and NOS. I already have everything I need except the actual mount. So I guess as long as it dosn't exceed $50, and this next attempt works, not only did I do a better job then they did because they only use 2 LEDs, and I used 6, but I saved $30 on a LED purge kit by making my own.

I mean, I have about 2,000 LEDs laying around, It's not like i just stick them anywhere. I try to make it classy. I guess if i do it and it dosn't look good, i'll just take it right back off. If it looks how I immagine it to look, i'll have my next COTM picture smile.gif
