Well, The hatches from cf tec would be shipped Glassless/lexaniless.,Up to the buyer to have their origonal glass swapped or find a lexani one somewhere., The hatch would be made in cf only.,

" - Mould cost = $1000
- Cost per Carbon Fiber hatch for the order of 10 per model = $600

So that makes it $700 per hatch if you roll the cost of the mould into that. I am checking on our shipping options now and will get back to you on that as soon as I know."

I'll remind him again of the rd1/rd2 mould differences..

Any idea what the cost of Lexan would be? I don't want to spend $600 to get the hatch and then find out that no company would make the lexan piece or charge us some crazy amount for the lexan.

Maybe we should pry as to where we can get the lexan piece. If they know then we could just ship the entire batch to that company and have them install and ship out to individual owners from there.

Just my 2 cents.

Great update Regit. Lets see where the shipping cost would put us.

We definitely need to figure out a place that can do Lexan. Hmmm......Let me ask around, maybe there is something in Denver. That way I can source them here and ship them from here. As far as continental US is concerned, Denver is pretty much centrally located for shipping, so everyone would have roughly the same shipping costs.

Ok,so,
For payment, we would all be paying Focused Motorsports(The guy's arranging this deal for me) for the hatches. Each buyer can paypal or EMT them the money,. They will provide invoices through email. Once they have payment from 10 clients per model year, they'll get everything rolling.. They will require the mould cost to be paid in full, and a 25% non-refundable deposit put down by each buyer. So Initially, that means we will need $250 up front from each buyer for each model (RD1 and RD2)

Breakdown of deposit per client:

$150 (25% deposit on cost of hatch)
$100 (Share of the mould cost for the model (RD1 and RD2)
$250

The remaining $450 per client will be paid once the hatch is finished being made and ready to be shipped.

For the group buy only, we will pay a flat-rate fee of $100 for shipping no matter where the hatch is going!!

I know this is a little of track from what I had origonally planned, but I think this is an awesome deal!!, maybe someone else could score us a lexani deal too?
I hope enough of you guys wan't this gb to happen!? ...I sure do! smile.gif

anyone else find any other good solid deals yet?...If blacktibs or any other deal is favored,I'm down with that!

I think 10 RD1's and 10 RD2's might be hard to come by but not impossible. I don't mind pay $700 (if i did the math right) to get the CF hatch. I just want to know I am able to source the clear piece. That is my only hold up at this point. If some one can find that then I think I am all for it.

We will just have to push to get 10 people. Also if they won't start until 10 are paid for people that keep saying they will pay but have to do something else with their money will hold us up. I've been in that boat a couple of times so I have to mention it here. I hate paying and then waiting three months for somebody else to pay before they even start mine.

That's $800 plus a back light.

As an aside, $100 on something this big is a good price for shipping. A general rule of thumb is, if something needs to go on a pallet, start at +$150 from the sales price.

we only pay $250 up front and the rest when the hatches are complete,so it does'nt tie up a whole lot of money... I was chatting with Focused mortorsport at a show today, theyre gonna try and get the number of 10 participants per rd style reduced

I was talking with a lot of people who use lexani on their rides today, and really, I'm not as keen on it as I was before seeing some installed, unless someone can copy the glass exactly,it would probably look like ass with the cf?, It was pretty thin and floppy.... I may just use my origonal glass..

waiting for 3 months is something that i could care less about. it is the fitment and overall quality that i am worried most about Ronnie.

"make it and people will but it" yes i know this has been said a billion times but it does work and since we could possibly use your car as a"fitment guinea pig" I want to make sure it is a EXACT copy.

take this for for what it is worth.

I just had a friend buy a CF hatch for his hatchback civic from Seibon. Seibon has a reputation for quality right? think about that again...

his tailights don't sit flush with the hatch

they installed bolt holes for the hatch cables in the wrong spot.

now this was a 700 dollar combo (bought a matching rear wing) and looks great from 20 ft. i dont want "looks great from 20 ft."

reinforcement in the hatch area where it attaches to the car and reinforcement in the strut area is what is needed plus great fitment.

Regit, if you can get them to agree to begin production when they get 10 orders TOTAL (both RD1 & RD2) then just MAYBE, we have a shot at accomplishing this.. But honestly, I don't see 20 orders happening anytime this decade, and if it comes down to that as a prerequisite I would not be putting my money in as I'd be out $250 until you found me 19 more buyers...

Also, I'd like to hear a little bit more about the company you are sourcing this from? Their experience with CF hatches on other makes & models, why they can't produce a window replacement, etc.

And finally, since this topic is gonna be closed in a couple weeks or so (I think), we shouldn't sign off with anyone until we can restart a topic on the guido's site.

So maybe I am the odd one here but the real reason I want this piece is for the weight reduction. Without lexan I don't see this as a venture I would pursue. I would love to reduce weight and be able to run 9.5 in the 1/8 mile. And I think the car could do it. I am also probably the only person on here who might paint the CF after getting it because they don't care about the appeal.

I understand lexan is not the best looking material for a curve but how much weight will you drop by using the stock glass. Weight from the rear wiper blade assembly, interior plastic and the spoiler. Plus maybe another ten pounds for ten pounds for the CF to stock material. For the cost I would have to have a lighter weight material than the glass.

Just giving my point of view. Would love to see this deal come through some how.
