Don't know, just use engine cleaner. Silicon is for making rubber and plastic more lubricated and flexibel.

i would strongly advise covering sensors. i washed my engine w/o covering anything and i'm pretty sure this is why the pins on my speedo sensor corroded into powder and caused so many problems. i've heard people at dealerships say they don't cover anything when they wash new cars, but i would cover stuff up. also, i just used armor all on the hoses and plastic and it worked very well.

Is it ok to pour water an valve cover (there are spark plugs and I water gets in it would be hard to make it dry), ignition coils, alternator? Or should I wrap them?

A little water might not hurt them, but if your going to "pour" water on them I would cover them. They are designed to keep out water, but if you go dudmping buckets on them some water might get in and cause problems.

Might as well wrap them for a little insurance.

Personally, I've never been a fan of using water to wash anything on the engine as I'm worried about rusting/ ruining something. If anything, why don't you use a damp cloth to clean it instead of pouring water on it?

i haved used a pressure washer for years to clean engine bays, and zero probs of course u always have to let it dry i have a big box fan i put on top of the engine so everything drys , and please guys dont try to clean ur motor right after a good long drive, if you try cleaning it with water after its really hot you will cool it to fast and cause the head to crack, and the GAS on the engine bay is the dumbist thing i heard of ,u just asking for a problem , now i have used gas for cleaning parts no prob but not anytime soon gas prices is just too high

But there are a lot of place whice I can't rich with a cloth (for example back side of the engine under intake manifold).
Then I have leak in stearing rack, so I want to clean there too, but I will definately not rich there.
