looks like im not going to be driving for awhile. when i bought my car in june the overdrive didnt work so i kept it off. if o/d was on the engine just revved and didnt go anywhere. the other day when i was driving, i noticed my car wasnt driving good and revving alot. about an hour later my trans completely blew, and now it wont drive at all. im not sure what im going to do now. i dont have enough money for another tib right now, and if i spend 1500 on a rebuilt trans ill be back to where i started when i bought the car...a car that runs and needs alot of body work, and not enough money to fix it all. before my trans blew i was looking for a parts car for the entire front end, fenders..etc and it needs a new body kit and paint
Just stick with your goal of finding a parts car and use the trans out of it. If you find one with a manual trans than you have the perfect chance to do the manual swap.
Im basically in the same boat as you. My trans blew a few months ago so I will be finding a replacement for it. You can find them pretty cheap, around my area i see them going for 250-400 dollars. better than having to pay for a rebuild.

manual swap!! How old are you and what's your experience level with cars? You can Do EET!
Find a junkyard, offer to pay $400 for the transmission and all necessary cables and pedals. If they say no, offer $500. If they say no, tell 'em $450 and you'll pull it off. This will give you experience without risk; you can rip everything off so you know how to put it back together.
Got any gear head friends? Or local forums where you can find some help? It goes much easier as a 2-person job.

im 18, dont really have any experience with transmissions or fixing cars. theres no way i would be able to do it. i know where a automatic trans is for 500...if its still there, it was a month ago.
Anyone live near Gloucester County, NJ and care to help a kid out?
automatic trans should be easy to replace. Drain the fluid, drop it out of the car, pop the new one in.
Biggest problem you'll run into is the weight -- bench pressing that beast and holding it so someone else can bolt it in!!

I learned everything working on my Tib I had very little knowledge starting out and now feel comfortable doing basically anything on the car. My best advice to you is Just dive in and have fun. Just be neat and label things and take pics along the way so if you need to reference back on were something goes you have some documentation. We can guide you through the process. Even if you want to stay auto there are tons of people on here that will help you out.
