All i gotta say is that there IS a way to make true ram air, very very effectively. Look hard at your engine bay *grasshopper* wink
You got to be kidding me. I am having flashbacks to some other forum I have been on. This is going nowhere with these posts. I'll look elsewhere for some intelligent answers.

true ram air?

ill let red, random, or shaddoh take care of that one

I hope your not thinking of sitting the filter in the hot hot engine bay right behind the hot hot radiator

Ram Air vs Cold air?
It shouldint even be a debate

but im still curious how you did it tongue.gif
you never know... i could be the one being stingy with the bong
ill paypal you 15 cents if you tell me

jmonti: why are you worried about water so much? Does it rain A LOT where you live at?
If you have your intake sitting pretty in the fenderwell.... youll have no problem with water... if the car submerges.... than you got a problem

Try the AEM by pass thingy

for ram air you would have to go about 200mph in order to RAM any air into the engine.

look....
you asked a question about a stupid intake filter thats not going to work....

i tried to help you

and exactly what is the topic? Look how many times youve changed it....

The topic slightly changed to a general RAM air intake
then you are worried about water going up the intake
Then you post article on a cold air setup
Then you also post articles regarding pressure

WTF!?
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO KNOW

i tried to help and warn you and all you do is insult my intelligence along with JonGtr

yes we have difference of opinions but we were both trying to help you out

ill leave this topic alone out of respect for the moderators...

Oh and BTW.... when you see this * tongue.gif * that means people are joking
If you would have asked jongtr about his ram air, im sure he would have told you
He was probably waiting to see if you were interested,... why write a ****en paragraph explaining your setup if no one is going to pay attention....
no need to dog him out on that

I asked about the original filter and I agree it is not the best idea.

If a true ram air is down low then the concern of water being ingested is a concern for those who may encounter large puddles or flooded roads.

If you read the articles you would realize that if you can have a cold air intake that can also utilize high pressure air at the front of the vehicle you can benefit from the ram air effect that is produced. The article talks about finding the point of the highest pressure to reap the largest benefit from your intake placement. The point with the highest pressure at the front of the vehicle was on the lower front cover. This actually is good because it is usually the easiest place to put the intake.

It seems no one has used a ram air setup from the front area of the car. If someone had I wanted to know what they did for the intake nozzle, It seems they should be large and then taper down to the hose you are using. Also you then need an air filter which needs to be enclosed somehow to benefit from the high pressure air being pushed into the intake. And last I would want an AEM bypass valve to prevent the possibility of ingesting large amounts of water. The Random tubing and heat wrap would still be utilized also.

I guess the way you were trying to help was by saying no rather than offering better suggestion to build a ram setup.

I'm still open to suggestions for this if you have some now that it should be clear what I am trying to accomplish.

I did ask gtr to explain his setup but nothing came of that.

I agree with the others here that a Random CAI or something similar would be the best way to go. I think that even if you did put a ram air system on your car the increase in HP wouldn't be enough to care about, however, I think that you are on the right track with something. Getting cool air in to your engine comparment would be beneificial, as well as getting some cool air to your brakes. You may want to think about taking some of that plastic pipe and make some kind of brake or engine compartment cooler with it. I was always pondering the thought of taking some plastic hose and running it from the front of my car to the intake manifold, just to blow some cool air on it. I have no idea if it would help but it would cost next to nothing. I commute 30 miles one way to work so I am always looking for that free mod that will get me a little extra mileage. The only problem with this mod is the fact that I would need to find some way to keep that hose away from hot engine parts which my be hard to do.

Anyway bro, I think what people are trying to say is a good CAI, like the Random special is effective and safe enough to use without having to worry about something like a ram air setup. If you wanna get creative you should make a Random CAI with copper tubing around it, then pump some CO2 through it to cool it more.
