Ram air induction
I found this looking for a filter to use for my Random CAI.

I have a 2002 elantra and was first thinking of bolting the filter right to the t/b. I am waiting for them to email back with dimensions to make sure it fits. It will be easy since I have no MAF sensor and the pcv hose has been rerouted to a catch can. The other end will go where the left fog light opening is. In the rain I can plug the snorkel up and let the filter suck from the engine area.
I also thought about putting the filter in the fender with the snorkel still in the fog light opening and then running the hose up to the t/b from the fender area. This way the filter will suck cold air all the time and also have ram air.
I can still plug the snorkel when it is wet and have cold air at the same time.
I know the hose may not be perfect between the snorkel and filter, but I am thinking the ram air effect will offset the ridges in the hose.

Those aren't the best for ram air, you might want to find a pod style filter.
pssst...try Ractive SF400 for $40. tongue.gif I got one and have a *true ram air* system but I'm not telling...

If you are talking about the ractive with the heat shield you are missing the point. With the filter I am talking about you can have a regular CAI with the added benefit of ram air induction. If it starts to rain I plan on figuring out a plug for the snorkel to prevent water coming in. The filter will still work even when you plug the snorkel.
In the setup you are talking about you would not be able to use it without having to worry about the engine ingesting water in heavy rains or large puddles. I want something that is ram air with the ability to be used in any weather.

no, check here: http://www.ctamotorsports.com/ractiveprodu...ctiveintake.htm
Only HKS, Uniflow, and Ractive make these styles of filters. Uniflow and HKS are over double the price though. My intake converts to ram air in less than a minute for racing and injects no water when on the street.

Hey no passing bongs in the engine forum
First off:
this is crap
i think the weapon R cold air attachment will do better.
You see how the filter can suck in air from the sides? Well buddy... there goes your suction... the only going up that funny dryer hose is bees, flies, spiders,... maybe a small amount of cold air.... not enough to make a difference
You wanna stick a filter in your TB? Are you kidding?
Whats the point?
Do you really want hot ass air in there?
A ram air intake = BS
You must have 5 million electric superchargers and SoMe VtEc Yo before you even take advantage of a ram air
So just forget you ever saw that thing bro... I ultimately HATE weapon R... but if your looking at something like this GET THE WEAPON R... youll loose less horsepower
OK now this

Interesting theory... BUT you forget grasshoper... HOT AIR CAN STILL GET IN!!!
Yes it blocks heat (although that shield will DEFINANTLY GET HOT) but it does not block the 100+ temp air going into your intake
Go with a cold air guys... dont waste your money
I bought a weapon R so crappy intakes drive me nutz....
Email JAWS01 or Random.... see if they will be willing to make you an intake
Ram air is not worth the money... i know by experience
Unless your planning to remove your headlight and stick the filter out there.... DONT DO RAM AIR
k... im done PMSing

I guess you don't understand. I am considering using pipe and heat wrap like the Random CAI and going behind the battery into the fender. Once in the fender I can use this fiter with the snorkel on the front coming out of the fog light opening.
The filter will act just like the Random filter sucking air from the fender area, with the added benefit of ram air also. If it starts to rain or snow I will cover the snorkel with a plug or cap.

ohhhhhhhhhhh
ok
well my recommendation is that you just spend that money and get a nice K&N filter
I understand what your trying to do, but the suction will just not be there
Leaving the filter sitting pretty in the fenderwell will get lots of air already
Randoms intake is PROVEN to get a 21 rating on the MAF(max before CEL 25)...
Putting and extra pipe in there might cause some turbulence
Remember... air goes in through that hole and ends up the filter anyways...
air------- hole ----- [large space in fenderwell]
the large space allows more air to rush in through the hole
air------ hole ----- small piping
This might restrict air coming in through the hole
You need as much air as you can going through that hole, by reducing the outlet you will be reducing the amount of air hitting the intake
Just let the piping go, and stick the filter in there
That will let COLD air rush in freely

I just remembered seeing something where a AEM bypass valve for the intake could have the pipe completely submerged and it would not suck the water into the engine. Maybe I can do something with an inline type of sealed filter with this aem valve to have ram air without the worry of killing the engine with water.
hehehehehe ya know, I'm like that dog on the bean commercials. I know jon's family recipe for the ram air setup... gimme a couple of bux and i'll spill the beans (no pun intended) tongue.gif
All i gotta say is that there IS a way to make true ram air, very very effectively. Look hard at your engine bay *grasshopper* wink
