how do you measure lift on the head studs? thats been bogglin the mind lately

no arp head studs fo me!!

for example hma says do this to the head studs


the 60-65 degree thing someone told me means lift

Dunno about lift. I would only think that means how much the bolt is stretched.

As for the distance between the threads, that is known as the pitch of the threads.

 

it's not lift. it's rotation

for the M10 bolts torque to 22lbs/ft then add 60 to 65° once all done add another 60 to 65° more
for the M12 bolts torque to 26lbs/ft the add 60 to 65° once all done add another 60 to 65° more

basicly you torque all the bolts, then add a bit more then a quarter turn to all of them, then add another "bit more then a quarter turn"

a eight of a turn is 45° quarter turn is 90° so basicly it's about 5/32 of a turn

those are called torque to yield bolts

I am doing a P&P head soon, might wanna do the arp studs huh?

 

i knowa few guys who reused old head bolt with turboed cars..
so far. .no problem, so in your case wit ha N/A car i doubt you'l lget a head bolt failure..
if you have extra money. .go for ARP or new OEM ones. .
but if your short on cash.. reuse the old one if they're in good shape
