You basically have 2 options for cold air intakes...
- AEM style where the filter sits in your fenderwell
- Injen style where the filter sits below your battery box
There are alot of knock offs on Ebay that are cheap, but they may not have the same diameter piping as a true AEM or Injen. They have 3" piping, where as the knock off's usually have 2.5" and they include cheap filters.
The knock off's also usually are one piece which means you'll have to cut them up if you want to add any kind of a by-pass valve (some people use them as piece of mind in case they get ALOT of rain or wet weather where they live).
The power difference between a true Injen or AEM versus an ebay knock off is minimal though. You're probably only looking at a 2-3 horsepower difference, if that. If you want to save money, go the ebay route (but get a good filter like k&n). If you want to support industry leading products with a good R&D behind their products...go name brand.

Thats a short ram...not a cold air.
While a short ram will give you immediate throttle response, it wont give you anywhere near the same performance as a cold air intake will. Reason being is that it sucks in hot air from your engine.
In order to gain the most power possible from an intake, you want colder and more dense air.
A cold air intake will draw in cooler temps because the filter is placed either down below the engine (under the battery like an Injen style) or outside the fenderwell (AEM style).

Your other optionis a 97-99 4cyl. Accord intake (2 piece). They can be had cheap on ebay and they fit the XD Elantra perfectly. Then you just add the filter of your choice.
Is the intake from a J2 Elantra going to work on an XD?
