Hello all!

As most of you may know, I have been in the market for a Quaife differential for some time now, and just as I was getting ready to purchase one, I came across these:

http://www.wavetrac.net/

Check them out!

It looks like they are just as good as a Quaife but better! These diffs give you better cornering traction when the inside tire is lifted or unloaded heavily, unlike the Quaife that will just spin the inside tire in a sharp corner. I did some research on them and they are apparantly made in the USA with US materials too so that is also good. Most reviews I read of these vs. Quaife seemed to lean toward the Wavetrac for their increased cornering capability.

The only question I have is do they make the correct one for our vehicles? For the Quaife we need to purchase the 90-99 Mitsu AWD Turbo front diff, but on Wavetrac's application list, there is no 90-99, only 95-99 NON-turbo 2WD front diffs.

http://www.wavetrac.net/application.htm

Just thought I would throw this info out there and see if any of you know if the front diff for those two mitsus is the same or different. If the Wavetrac will in fact work, I would rather buy one of them than the Quaife because they have a good cornering benefit AND they are about $200 cheaper!

Thanks in advance.

There was a thread a long time ago about these, but no real progress was made on testing them or finding which one fit the RD application that I know of.

I know a few 3g eclipse guys have used them and as far as I know they like the feel of it. I'll see if I can find some of their reviews.

I didn't read through the site, but also remember (I believe) that the wavetrac doesn't come with the lifetime warranty like the quaife does. That could be enough to sway your decision.

Apparantly there is a limited lifetime warranty. I also heard it takes 4-8 weeks for warranty repair or replacement from Quaife if something does happen, and soon you may need to ship it overseas... I don't think the mirage is the right one. I will call wavetrac this week and get some more info... thanks for the replies, if you could post up some reviews that would be awesome. smile.gif

I think the differential from a 97-2002 1.8L mitsubishi mirage will fit the RD tranny!

thats why I think is the one for the 1.6 MIVEC...

I have had the Eclipse Quaiffe in my Tib for 5 years. Works well.

Jon, we are talking about a different type of diff. The Wavetrac. From your post I feel like you are only mentioning the Quaife? Dunno just wanted to make sure you knew, which you probably did lol.

You think or you know the diff from the Mirage will fit? Do you know someone that has done it or what? And is that diff on the application list on Wavetrac's site?

I don't know about the Mirage, or if it has the same transmission. A mirage owner might know. wink1.gif

Personally, I don't always recommend a LSD. It was an improvement, yes. But is it worth $1200? Or could you put that money into the turbo build? I got mine for $550. It was a steal. So I took it. But if I had to spend $1200 on a LSD, I'd rather spend that money trying to get 500hp on an open diff.
I don't know how much power you're putting down these days, but I'm sure you have other things that are more pressing than an LSD.

Or maybe I'm thinking with my own head in that power is everything. lol

Several people have told me that they have used them, but I personally haven't!

My problem is transmissions, I've gone through 3 already! One was a catastrophic differential failure that resulted in cracking the trans case and stripping off the Ring/Pinion gears. Not to mention what the hell is the point of having 4-500 hp on a FWD car on an open diff? You would only benefit from the power if you were in 4th-5th gear or at the track with massive slicks (thats if you don't rip your diff to shreds like I did). And I'm trying not to get myself killed with the car pulling me all over the place at 80-120 mph lol.

Damn I wish I could get a Quaife for $550!!! You lucky Bast@r&!!
