Meh. I had it backwards. Ho well you live you learn. The displacement on the Beta I is still a pretty easy thing to discern I guess, if you can see the side of the block. Thanks Mauricio.
i thought the 1.8l spark plug cover is all black with black writing.. while the 2.0l is blac with silver writing thats how i distinguished my elantra and tiburon besides looking under the hood or driving the two lol

BTW, if someone want to identify the Beta 1 blocks that had the 35mm crank (for the flywheel) it's easy, check the crankshaft sensor, on the 41mm the CPS "form" is horizontal, the 35mm one have it vertical.
Exemple :
This one (my spare engine) has a 41mm crank size :

what he says is that the crank sensor mounting hole is in the 3 o clock position for the 41mm crank and is in the 12 o clock position for the 35mm
might be a good catch Chris...
never actually catched that one ;-)

^ exactly what I was trying to say! Sorry if it wasn't clear!
I catched that when I opened that engine, since I replaced the cranksensor twice on my Elantra (one fried and the other was bad from the start) I knew the sensor position on that engine was not the same. So I checked and saw that the 41mm crank engines had it position differently ... so it helped identifying engines in the junkyard when I went afterwards!
Of course it only helps for Beta1 2.0l engines but it's still a good way to see which is which without trying to figure out the 1999 production month! smile.gif
