the stripped botl is fixed..

now I just need to figure out why the belt wants to scoot over just a smidge when the car is started, instead of staying centered on all four pulleys like it should be..

and stfu David. =( I need a driveable car NOW. 2.0 is fine and dandy for laterz. wink1.gif

...I'm totoally screwed aren't I.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!

It seems no one knows what these are (image taked from Webtech), but it is THESE flanges that resisit the side forces and keep the belt from slipping off the pulley.

I HAVE TO get these flanges somehow... Hyundai Dealership i guess..

Well I ordered those flanges...

They're 4.90, LOL. They're in L:A, shoudl be here in 3 days or less. In the meantime i'm going to run the car without the flanges and the OLD timing belt, that was the new one won't get chewed up on the motor mount and lowering timing belt case/cover..

When the parts come in I'll take all the pulley's off and re-install the cam pulley with the flange to keep the crank sprocket in place and the belt cenetered...

I just wish someone had read this post and told me about those flanges earlier instead of learning it the hard way and wasting 4 days. S'all good, live and learn...

I always look at the up-side of things..
Now i can change a timing belt in an hour or less on a beta. No joke, I've done it to my car about 30 times. I can do it in my sleep..

LOL

Pat I thought that flange was part of the crank pulley.

appraently not, they parts guy at Hyundai found the part number...

I'm looking at the crank pulley and the crank sprocket right now and i don't see any attacments resembling any flanges....

I don't know how these flanges I ordered are going to be attached... but hopefully that will become clear once I have them in my hands.

If anyone took any pictures of this area during their timing belt install or whatever, please post them. wink1.gif

QUOTE (MadMachine)
You just can't have easy problems can you

HAHAHA

so i got everything back together, been checking and rechecking EVERYTHING. Timing is perfect, belt tension is perfect, blah this.. blah that...

Turn key and I get NOTHING! Starter doesn't turn, engine doesn't crank, doesn't even try to fire, no noise whatsoever. I don't know HOW my battery died during these past few weeks, but that is the only explanation i can think of. It's an Optima Blue Top Deep Cycle, wasn't even removed from the car during any of the work done, jeez...

Life is just great. smile.gif
