As for HP gains man, AEM claims up to 12HP.
Java is right, brand names are key if you are wanting to get points at shows.
The SR intakes are a nice idea, but folks have bought them as far as a year and a half ago and they still haven't been delivered. Don't get one!

Maybe it is my coming originally from air cooled Vdubs or something.. but I do not agree with the idea of giving somebody all the points for basically walking through a tuner shop and picking items off of the shelf. What ever happened to hard work, ingenuity, and original ideas? If I was a judge, I would give more points to the guy who executed a beautiful homemade CAI than a store biught one.
have you ever seen the Random special man? Not pretty, but definitely effective. For the original post: I'd say for sound and for definitely noticable gains get AEM or SSautochrome. And Im sure if you dont have a CAI yet you dont know what these guys mean by an A Spec (a.k.a. REVISION A) 1997 tiburon fx. This means that your car was made pre 97. If so you will have to find out by looking under your rear bumper. If there is a big black box on the opposite side of the chassis than the exaust, then you're OK and do not have an A spec tibby. IF there is not one there, you'll have to check by looking under your front bumper right underneath where the battery sits, if there is a big box there you have an A spec, and you'll have to make the decision on what to do from there. Look at the production date on your car before anything see if it says 97, or 96. It should be on the driver side door jam.

Yup, the Random Special is dyno'ed at 16 HP for the RD. WOW!
Mad Machine, I feel ya man. I think it's silly that they want all the parts with brand names, and the custom stuff has to be customized by some big name shop. Or covered in CF.

I am not sure about the whole 16 whp dyno i thinking it was more like 8 or 9whp. 13 whp was cai for the GK's. I have the random special on my car. From what I remember Randoms dynoed the highest from all the rest.
I checked the mfg. date and it says may 17, 1997 on the side of the door but i can't find the black box thing in the back.... but i see some kind of square thing the battery is resting on top of but it looks like it's part of the frame i dunno where the black box is. If it was manufactured in may 1997 it can't be A-spec can it?
yeah production date seems like you still have a Rev A. I thought maybe it was very late 97. OK so you have a REV A then. Next question do both the strut tops look the same in the engine bay. You know where there is a big circle with a black bump in it and three brass bolts around the circle. Are they identical or is one side different. This is just my own lil study. If you have a Rev A then I'll put up a link on how to get rid of your "problem" but I cant give you advice on tampering with emissions equipment. I can just refer you to some elses write up on it. After that lil 10 minute job you can install any CAI you want. In the not so far off past it was though that if you had a Rev A you were just out of luck. I hated that myself and did everything I could to change that thought. So I'll keep helping you through until you have a nice True Cold air intake on that biotch.
