Heat shield bolts are easy to get off, I don't think that's what they were talking about...

EDIT: Okay now that I re-read, maybe he WAS talking about the heat shield bolts....? Those were a breeze to take off when I did it. Maybe one turn with a regular socket wrench then you could do the rest with your hand if it wasn't too hot. I hope that's not what you're talking about (maybe elements made it worse or something...)

Do you have a lift or a car jack that can get it off the ground to make exhaust install easier/possible? Good luck with install, it feels good realizing how much you didn't just pay someone for the same work...

For my own sake, I went and tried the the heat shield bolts. I could feel the socket extension started to bend. I don't think they are coming off of mine that easy. tongue.gif

As long as you have jack, two jack stands, and a metric socket set and a socket, exhaust should be easy. I think there are a few 14mm and 16mm bolts holding it on (the exhaust).

I broke an extension trying to get the heat sheild off.. a wrench with a pipe over it works better.

Are you guys serious, that's weird because mine are VERY easy to get off. I'm not denying the fact that you guys had trouble, just curious as to why mine were so easy to get off.

We are talking about the same bolts right...the ones (i think maybe 7) you unscrew to get the heat shield off (they are visible while the heat shield is on). I believe they are 10mm size.

A jack stand is neccesary, and a good investment. I find myself always borrowing my neighbors for some reason or another and the other day I saw one on sale at Shuck's for 79.99, thought maybe I should get one...but right now there's NO room in my garage. My mom and sister completely took over while I was gone and now all my stuff is buried under X-mas decorations and old clothes!! ;(

Before you bought the car yours may have been taken off, and so the elemental seal was broken on them. Mine has never been touched, it sat in a junkyard for a year or two exposed to the rain, and cleaned every once in a while.

to get those bolts off easier spray the crap out of it with WD-40 and give it an hour or so to soak in, keep spraying it every 15 minutes. That should help out more than you would believe, that stuff is magic.
