I used to have 4-1 on my rd on stock exhaust and it sounded.... like stock!

So the 4-1s aren't much different than stock (sound wise)? That would be great as my wife would have a cow if the car got too loud, but I want more power. Trying to get a good boost this Xmas with AEM CAI and a catback, then maybe headers and highflow cat later laugh.gif

You could play with pipe diameters to muffle the noise. Like instead of a glasspack you could put a section of pipe 0.25" larger than the rest, like 20 inches long.
Of course it's better to eliminate the buzz to put a glasspack, perforated core type (there are some of them really cheap, like 20 a piece).
Try not to put straight through mufflers, and straight through catbacks, as it WILL be loud a buzzy, and unless you're 100% into racing and need to squeeze even the last HP out of your engine, it's not worth it.
How many times you guys with the loudest mufflers have wanted to step on the gas and you have been cohibited or embarrased because your ride is just too loud?
Besides, if you're building your ride step by step, you can install your headers, put a nice muffler (please not an empty resonance pipe -like muffler, use something with packing) and before buying your catback, put a long glasspack after the high flow cat. if you later decide to put a fancy catback, all you lost is the 20 bucks of the glasspack.

i agree with Zman on the muffy.

i've got a magnaflow Xl, and it's perfect. i hate that hollow can sound, unless it's on a dual set-up with perforated resonators, or a 'fatback'.... which is what i've heard that called as well...(when the pipe is made wider at the back, obviously....)

got a 4-2-1 header installed with a magnaflow high flow cat and 2 1/4 exaust and magnaflow muffler and no resonator, my car sounded like a 2 stroke dirtbike. so i lasted a week and got the resonator put back in now it sounds awsome....all my friends say it sounds like a wrx at low rpms

yo man i've got your answer....

why because i have a 4-1 header on my stock exhaust. i do have an intake as well..

well ofcourse you have the intake sound, and the header does make your car a little louder...BUT it is relatively stock sounding untill you are at full throttle, upper RPM's and it just sounds sweet..

but for everyday driving it is awesome, not overwhelming and not whisper quite...i think it's perfect.

yeah, i liked the sound of the headers/intake before i got the exhaust done too. i was one of the lucky ones though that wound up with it sounding good both ways.

i had a muffler on it...but took it off, not because it sounded bad...but i just got tired of everyone looking at my car when i drove by, the import exhaust sound is everywhere, i wanted to go back on the DL for cops and long highway hauls where i'd be crusin at 4-5 K which with the muffler was kinda got annoying.

aemtib youll love it but get a glass pack, i have a 4-1 high flow cat 28 inch glass pack and a blue anodized Apexi N1 muffller, with 2.5 inch tubing, it sounds NICE, No buzzing at all, very deep tone around 3000 RPM, and when floored sounds rumbley, not buzzy,

GO WITH THE HEADER, but get a glasspack and a high flow cat
