sexual favours perhaps?

ArticChill is right.. the V8 of the stang is putting out more exhaust per revolution... but that is not the be all and end all of sound. A lot has to do with firing order, size of the piston, the stroke of the piston, number of valves, exhaust manifold, exhaust... See what I am getting at?

My one fiat spider.. with an engine that has the same size stroke as the chevy 350 (you can use the rods if you have them rebored to a larger bearing surface) with headers, a 2 1/4 inch exhaust, a resonator, NO muffler or cat (doesn't need a cat) and a resonated dual tip... while it did scream at 5 grand and above... was quiet enough at idle that it would go right through inspection without raising a brow.

Cyber, don't make me preach on the SRT-4 being the best car under 30,000 again. And you said who doesn't lie about horsepower ratings? The SRT-4 is rated at 215 at the crank. Stock dynos have them at 215 WHP and 250 TQ in some cases. Nuff said. Figure in drivetrain loss and thats about 260hp. I don't know the invoice on the Mustang, but its 17300 on the SRT-4. I wish I had saved another year and bought a used 04 SRT-4, but thats down the drain now that I have the Tib. The WRX can put out more power than some Mustang as well, can pick up a new one for 19k I believe. Stock times on SRT-4s have been around 13.2. The best for Mustangs are 13.8. Go figure.

Back to the bet. Just go AEM intake, Maintec Header, 1.8L cam, and a custom exhaust. Should cost you about 1000 bucks tops, and will get your car as loud as it can be.

Wow if i could just remember everything I was gunna comment on, I obviously sparked something.

Frst comment though is that an automatic GT stock (not the '05 but like a '01, which hers is) i can keep up w/ in my tib and for all i know the previous owner hadnt done shit to it but f*** it up.

Its the 2.0 but ok i guess its the i-4 (force induction, if its any different) since i didnt get a specific reply to the Q. I asked b/c i saw another thread talkin about N/A modding a beta and wasnt sure if it was the same engine i have, and if so if the response to the mods would be worthless.

On getting faster than a stang i wouldnt be bothering w/ modding it to be loud, but would focus on putting a (any) turbo in it.

Does removing the cat and muffler have a negative or positive effect on power?

ArcticChill: What's your setup?

Cyber: just $50, no favors... I gotta freak and wanna keep her. Plus this girl wont know how high im reving it and its already quite loud at 4 - 5k RPMs

if power doesn't matter and you're not racing her, then just run straight headers, take everything else off. it will be loud as HELL, you'll throw a CEL, lose about 20hp, but also get $50 and then before you drive anywhere you can put your exhaust back on.

a tib with open headers is the same as a civic. slow and loud as f***. why don't you just buy one of the ARK exhausts, it will have a NICE sound, and be good performance-wise. what kind of bet is "who's car is louder" anyway, go get a 1980 oldsmobile rust bucket for $50, take the exhaust off it and you'll get your $50 back.

well if you want it loud and non ricey its possible, my car used to be stupid loud untill i started getting tickets for it lol...

get an intake, aem, injun, aos what ever. headers, 4-1 pr 4-2-1 now heres the ever important part. you'll have to run a completely new exhaust line made atleast 2.5 in or larger with a high flow cat (if you dont car about emmissions ditch the cat all together) and finish it off with a nice direct flow muffler but (the tubing in the muffler shouldnt bend at all, just straight through the middle) AND IT CAN"T BE A CANISTER TYPE EITHER!

it'll sound real beefy and loud. if you wanna go all the way put some high comp pistons and cams in too

intake and headers on the way, is the ARK really worth the cash? i've seen cat-backs for under $350, theirs was going for $410+ship in the GB.
