QUOTE (zoned019)
well since nobody has actually answered the guy's question about the ECT button I will...

Dude, calm down and read all the posts...
QUOTE (Zman)
...As for the button, it's there so you can select what kind of programming you want in your auto shifter; the normal mode is how you "should" drive all the time, if you want the gearbox to stick into each speed until high rpms, then you can select the ect mode.
Of course, if you ALWAYS floor your throttle, you won't feel a thing, because then the gearbox automatically "enters ect mode" as it reads the pedal is at WOT.

I think there was the answer right in the second post of the thread... but never mind, we all get carried away sometimes... laugh.gif:
QUOTE (zoned019)
...it allows you to get more out of your gears, it will push each gear TO or a LITTLE past redline...

AND... NO, the engine won't go OVER the redline, not even a tiny little, it will only go farther in the rpm range, like if the std program is set to upshift at 3500 rpm's with that option activated it will change at 6000 maybe 6500 rpms.
The same as when you put your shifter in "L" or first, and floor it, it won't go over the redline, even if you have selected L it WILL upshift into second gear at the safety limit just before the redline.

If you haven't messed with your ECU, wiring, electronics of your car, there's almost NOTHING you can do in normal or spirited driving that will make your engine blow.
I think the only thing that could do it blow (kids: please DO NOT try this at home laugh.gif: ) is if you are at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) at high speed with engine just on the redline and suddenly quick shift into neutral WITHOUT taking your right foot off the gas pedal, but that would be really a stupid way to blow anything.
So, be happy, your engine won't just blow.

well it will never go past redline, ok.
basically unless your racing or wanting to accelerate really fast or trying to max it out, etc, leave the ECT on normal instead of power.

thanks zman, i am not 100% knowledgable about that button..i saw a graph somewhere (that someone posted when I asked this question many months ago when i first bought my car) where the car produces more power in higher rpms, and it allows the shift point to be set higher--basically it shifts at the very LAST second i suppose with ect on power.

are you sure about that? i think if its in L you can redline it

Hey Kit, you know what?
Just to volunteer to that test could earn you to bold and capitalize your title... laugh.gif:

Now, back on-topic: If an auto tranny is slipping, then you have a problem ECCustoms; you should realy never force a cold engine or tranny, and changing the oil regularly on an auto tranny is REALLY important, as much as with the engine.
I hope the problem doesn't get worse, try to change your tranny fluid in the recommended intervals and check the tranny cooling lines for cloggs, damage or leaks; if fluid gets too hot, it looses some of it's characteristics to protect your internal tranny pieces.
