Well Random those pix that you helped me post up above. Thats using 2.0 Rods on a 1.8 crank with 2.0 piston.

Do you think a 2.0 Rods with 1.8 Crank and CNK 8:5:1 Pistons could work?....... or if not how much longer would custom made rod have to be.

Doing the math in my head, it's not gonna work. We'll need new rods manufactured in order for the shorter 1.8L crank to work correctly in the 2.0L block. The 5mm of extra length won't make up for the shorter throw and the taller block.

What's REALLY confusing me is why HMC went to such great lengths to make their lives miserable. It's rather difficult to imagine why they'd have two entirely seperate parts lists for those two motors. We're now talking about new pistons, new rods, new crank, new block and potentially a new head. Why the hell did they make their lives such a mess?

There's gotta be more to it than they were just stupid wink

Chris hopefully is willing to do the rods for us cause I really need them to make my project work. I am willing to spend 700.00 on custom rods.

Random, Russ....are you guys wlling to do this stroker project through too?

It's a de-stroker project though... You're decreasing the stroke and at the same time increasing the rod length by more than the destroke amount. Definately a good combo for a high revver.

I've been waiting for a long F'ing time to do this destroking project. Killer, Chris all ready said that he'd make the rods but he is busy right now with getting the 2.0 and 1.8 rods made. He said he would work on the 2.0 to 1.8 custom rods when he was done with the others. Chris seems to be a busy man now days.

Guys --

I just got off the phone with a mate of mine who works for Hyundai -- I asked him once again about the pistons, rods, and crank issue ---

Here are the facts confirmed by Hyundai themselves with the parts in front of them.

(I was slightly mistaken with the pistons - long time since I stripped these two engines to compare)

Pistons are different indeed. Random, got the measurements correct, although the pin diameter and landing are identical, the dome on the crown is slightly different.

The rods are IDENTICAL - 100% IDENTICAL I have checked this myself, and measured each rod myself.

The cranks has a different throws ---

Right --- for those of you who need special rods made --- best you tell me NOW - I am making up rods as we speak, and once weighed and approved and I am happy I will show you all pics and move on from there..... pics of the start of the project can be found on the temp CNK web page at www.cnk.co.za very little info but it's a start.

Random, I will need some EXACT measurements of exactly how much different the deck height is .... BUT here's the trick. I want to know this with the following components in the 2.0 block.

I need the have the 1.8 crank and rods (same anyway) with 2.0 litre pistons in the 2.0 litre block ..... the reason for this is because I want to make up the rods to match the CNK pistons and I will be adding them into the CNK Hybrid Turbo kit with an option to use a de-stroked engine option or the normal BETA 2.0 option. Since I will not sell a kit to anyone using stock pistons, I have chosen to make up the rods to match my pistons.

Cost on the rods will not be $700.00 thats for sure!! closer to $550.00 or so... but I will see what the costs are to manufacture them first. I will also start a GB on this item once I am happy with them.

Just to go off topic here for a sec --- regarding those who need stronger diffs -- I have been investigating manufacturing these also .... more info to come on the CNK forum soon.

Some more info off the top of my head.

1.8L block 135mm Cylinder Bore Depth
2.0L block 145mm Cylinder Bore Depth

Con Rod/crank bearing inner diameter 45mm (for both 1.8L and 2.0L

1.8L Rods are stamped/cast A6A B
2.0L Rods are stamped/cast B5B 20

I'll have more info when I get home late tonight. Working till 10pm pst time. I'll also post up the photos.

Chris!
If the Pistons are diferent between the 2.0L and 1.8L than this mean the Pistons you have made for me for my 1.8L motor at a 8.5:1 compression be still ok?
Did you take measuremnts based off the 2.0L Pistons and then manufacture a set for me?
Please let me know before i install them into my motor?

Thanks very much smile.gif smile.gif

Yes, what 2UNIQ said,... the 8:5:1 Pistons you made for me also, will they be ok with 1.8 crank, 2.0 block, & custom long length rod combo?
Please tell me its ok cause I dont have a 1.8 block to use at my disposile, plus I would prefer receiving 8:5:1 pistons made from the 2.0 pistons to use in a 2.0 block that I have already gotten magnafluxed, stroked, and painted. really_m

If so I can have the money for the rods in 2 weeks no problem man. help

Rob,

The pistons I made for you were for a 1.8 block with all 1.8 internals. I measured the cc's accordingly. - they will work perfectly.

Killershark -- I will make up another set of pistons at 8.5 to 1 CR according to the 2.0 block for you not a problem at all. The rods --- hang in there, the first set is coming along nicely.... pics coming soon.
