Best cheap OEM mod
I dunno why you're answering people's question, Redz. The fact that people think by swapping to a lower displacement engine ECU and having different codes makes absolutely no sense when the OBD-I reader...READS THE SAME FRIGGING CODES!!! If you have an import OBD-I reader...then usually they have codes for a bunch of imports. They're basically the same, but there are some codes the OBD-I cannot interpret, which means you go online...go to the www.hmaservice.com site and look up the codes yourself.
And why the hell are some of you people afraid of ruining your car? It's an ECU...meaning...it's the "brain" of the vehicle...meaning any problems you have is related to that...unless your engine had problems originally with your stock ECU...then...it's not going to magically disappear. And it's the 1.8L ECU...meaning that Hyundai did the same thing to the 1.8L that they did to the 2.0L ECU (meaning running the car pig rich)...then what do you think will happen if the 1.8L (meant to run rich on a 1.8L) runs on a 2.0L?
www.car-part.com is a very good site. Some of those guys will even ship you the part...so quit being lazy and go look for one on that site. And if you're really skeptical about those people...then that's a problem of your own. I haven't had any problems with the junkyards affiliated on there...and I haven't really heard about any other guys having problems.
Sorry for sounding like an ass, but some of these questions can be answered by searching. And doing one search, coming up with nothing, and saying you searched does not qualify as searching. Clearly, most of you are doing that...otherwise, these questions wouldn't be asked in the first place. Damn you impatient people...always seeking answers just by asking and asking...when the same questions have been answered before. SEARCH.
I'd suggest locking this topic if more of these questions are asked again. mad.gif

So let me get this straight, since I have an SAFCII this really wouldn't help me since I can lean it out on my own?? Also does it do anything for spark or just fuel management?
This mod has nothing to do with running leaner ... in fact ... the tib runs even RICHER with this mod ... so much in fact that it WILL throw a CEL code if you've modded your exhaust setup to increase flow ...
The power gains from better ignition timing in the 1.8L ecu.
I ran this mod for a week and got a CEL which was told me it ran too rich ... another one in the US had the same issue, and our common denomenator was the exhaust mods ... whereas everyone running stock is fine with it.
I'm told that the 1.8l injectors combined with the 1.8l ecu fixes this ... but but cuz of the injector timing ... u loose the torquey "feeling" on the pull

Because on RD, most of these HAVEN'T been asked or answered on this mod. Shad and you aren't answering, so I am with what I know.

Okay, great, NOT EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.

Doode, remember, there's some folks here that are afraid of running a CAI without a bypass. It's silly, but it's a fact.

Unfortuantely, our search won't come up with something unless it's more than 3 letters. 1.8L ECU = 2 X 3 letter words (. = 0). Considering there's only really been ONE thread on the swap before, MOST of these questions haven't been answered.

That's true with yours, but it hasn't to mine. Or most of everyone else's.
Matter of fact, Cybershark has a 1.8L Ecu with a full intake including Airram and a FULL EXHAUST. No problems at all. He's a big advocate for this mod.

but is Cybershark not the guy shaddoh told me about that GOT the CEL with those mods and only fixed it by adding the 1.8l injectors ...
YOU'RE situation is that you're still running stock ... TRUST me ... do your exhaust and you will VERY likely have the same problem.
I KNOW I'm not the only one that had a problem ... this mod is far from "tried tested and true" yet ...

No, it's tried tested and true. I even stated in the previous thread man that we had like 2 CEL's from anyone with the swap. I know of... I belive it's 23 of these installed now. 2 CEL's.
I tried to get Shadohh to post in here again a few days ago, but I guess he doesn't want to.

2. Don't get the REV A ecu from a 97 Tib, you'll get a CEL.

I have had this mod for a few months now..I just havn't said anything..wink1.gif It hasn't given me any problems at all and I feel, for the price, it's an unbeatable value..I have just about every n/a mod in the book, except for cams, and I feel the 1.8 ecu complements everything else nicely. Believe me, Redz would not vouch for this thing if it didn't work.

I've tried BOTH the ecu from a 97 tib ... and an ecu from a 98 elantra ... both yeilded the same CEL code for me... I'm just running CAI and 2.5" cat back.
any ideas.
