anyone else notice the before and after chain tension?

SOMETHING is wrong.

Chain tension: when it's slack, note the position of the cam retainer/caps...

...not on there. It's normal to have a slack chain at that point.

In the Before picture, when everything was okay, there is no slack, in the after picture, now that there is problems, there IS slack, you say that is normal?

^^^ in the before picture all I had done was pop the caps off, in the after picture it hasn't been seated , I had just got the chain on, it tightened up when I put the caps back on

Yes it's normal. The valve springs kick the replacement cam out of position and there will be slack. Tighten down the caps and it goes tight. It's pretty scary the first time you change cams out!

I was looking at just the chain and sprockets. I can understand that then. is it all running fine?

I also got you confused with Daneeboy that's having all those issues.
