Ok I was messing around in the Garage the other day and decided to install a GSX fuel pump I had sitting around and in the process snap some pics.

Well enough of the rambling on to the install. BTW this is a 96 Elantra, but should still be the same for a RD.

I just changed my fuel pump, so as I said here it is (I just took Speed-Factor DIY, changed the text a little and took some pictures!) :


This was done on a 2000 Elantra and should be the same for RD.


To start of with you will need the following tools:

-Flat Tip Screwdriver
-8mm socket
-10mm socket
-Pliers


Ok now with the backseat out of the way you will need to remove the plastic cover over the fuel pump aceess, this is done by using the screwdriver and gentle prying the cover up.

With the cover removed you will see the hose and electrical connections, unplug the electrical connection so you can move the cover out of the way.

Now that the cover is oit of the way you will want to remove the return line, this is done by using the pliers and sliding the clamp back so you can slide the hose off.

Ok now you will want to remove the feed line, this is done by removing the 10mm bolt that holds it in place (note: Have a rag or small container handy as this will spill some fuel)

With all the lines out of the way you will want to remove the 8mm bolts that hold the fuel pump in place.

When removing the fuel pump from the tank becarefull you don't snag the fuel level float.


Ok now that the hard part is done we move on to the actual swapping, to do this you will need your pliers.

You need to remove the lower clamp on the rubber connetion hose to the pump.

with the hose being loose (but not off the the pump yet) remove the electrical connection.

Now the pump will side right out (you'll have to pull a little, don't hesitate it's only the rubber fiiting on the bottom of the pump that is holding it in place) be sure to reuse the rubber fitting on the bottom of the old pump. Be sure to also use the stock bottom filter, removing it is easy, just pull the attach washer with a flat tip screwdriver.

Here is the stock fuel pump (on the left) and the GSX fuel pump (on the right).

Now you will have to just redo everything above in reverse and you will have a GSX fuel pump installed in your car.

Here is a final pic of the pumps swapped out (with the GSX bottom fuel filter, I put the OEM one after that picture).

Yeah I noticed more pull on the top end with it from the stocker that was at it's last bit with the turbo.

And yes dammit I am a Smurf, Smurfette is my main hoe!!!

The filter that is big is the factory one, there was plenty of room between the float and it, pics are in the wrong angle.

Java the pump you need a walbro for a 95-99 Eclipse pump, this is a stock pump out of a 96 GSX.

 

Yes that is the exact pump, but as far as your problem I don't think a higher flow will help, but you could always try.
