DIY: The "Big 3" wire upgrade
so does anyone have an alternative route for the alt grounding point. Are you saying to run the line from the alt to the firewall ground point or the positive battery terminal to the firewall ground?
The alternator should be run to the Battery POSITIVE terminal.
Add another wire from the BATTERY NEGATIVE to the firewall ground is what shadohh was trying to say.

you could easily put an inline fuse like you would for your amp power wire.
What I did was put in a 100 amp circuit breaker so if (for some strange reason it blows) all I have to do is flip the breaker back on and not replace a fuse.

So, has anyone had problems adding the extra cable from the Alternator to the Battery? I want to begin this project, but would like to know peoples reactions to this particular upgrade. I'm new here, so if this has already been discussed, I appologize.

i was wondering about this too, its the only thing really holding me back from doing this.. i think that shadohh was saying that if you leave the stock wire from ALT-Batt(+) in additon to the New 0-gauge wire, then it will retain its sensing ability and there will be no problem, but im not 100% sure..
You should definitely leave the stock wires in place. Electricity always follows the path of least resistance, so having them in there will not hurt you at all. In fact removing them will hurt current flow, and may cause problems as stated.
