Usually the point that they hit is a metal lip on the side in the rear and the bolt holding the plastic bumper to the metal quarter panel. This bolt can be removed and the lip ground down. You don't usually need the bolt at all, but if the bumper is too floppy afterwards you can drill through the flange farther back and hold it with a pin.

is it best to get the grinder and cut slots into it then use a hammer and knock it in. or risk rolling it and hoping it don't crease it.

its the lip mate. When i bounce the car. the Tyre is hitting the metal lip under the arch itself. They are 8" alloys sadly. Stocks are 4.5/5" in uk.

If it's hitting there it's almost certainly hitting both places. You can grind some lip back if it'll clear, if it takes more you'll have to roll it.
