Default Help choosing tires

Need to replace the tires on the Tib but looking to keep this within budget so I can afford more playthings.

I'm currently running Nexxen N3000's which have been a good tire to this point. They ran fine in the dry, never gave many issues in the wet and gripped fairly well. Even survived the snowpocalypse, proving functional on the snow at low speeds and allowing stupidity in frozen parking lots. Considering I paid $100 for the set of 4 I have no complaints. I have been told numerous times that these are shitty tires but they were the first set I ran on this setup and WOWed me from time to time. I'd like to see what a decent set can do but I'm not looking to install anything crazy just yet. I'm looking for some recommendations. Size = 205/40/17

Price goal: under $100/tire

I tried a set of Nitto Neo Gens and they were sh*t. There's no real nice way for me to put it, but they sucked in the dry, never worked at all in the wet, had a sidewall made of pudding... They were absolute sh*t.

Some I have been looking at:

Kumho Ecsta AST

Findings/reviews: Nissan forums call them sh*t, Bimmer forums claim they're tolerable

BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport

Findings/reviews: Decent to moderately good tire for summer and rain. Any light freeze and ball bearings would be more effective.

Kelly Fierce HP

Findings/reviews: Moderate to good, but might stretch the budget a littler farther than desired.

Yokohama AVS

Findings/reviews: Great dry and and decent wet, crap winter. Cheap right now due to being discontinued.

Sumitomo HTR Z II

Findings/reviews: Surprisingly good after a moderate break-in period, especially for price!

Other options?

We don't get much in the way of winter weather so that's in no way a deal breaker, plus I still have the deuce if it does go all winter wonderland. I need something that's going to be nice and sporty, without breaking the bank. There's a bunch of great passes through the hills up here and I'm about 2 hours from the tail if I ever feel especially stupid. Need feedback ASAP. Gotta get these mounted and all aligned in time for Caffeine and Octane this Sunday.

i have neogens on the rear of my RD, they're all seasons tire's and specifically designed for lowered cars, yes..they have a soft sidewall and grip less than most summer rubber, but they're quiet and wear well, i bought mine in 2011 and they still have about 7 secs of tread with a trunk full of tools and power equipment.

kumho ecsta ast are junk and are only good for the looks and price, they wear like crap and are horrid in the rain,

bfgoodrich supersport a/s are great for dry&wet grip and sharp steering but they're horrible in the snow, the rubber compound is too hard and they wear out quickly.

Fierce..they're made by goodyear, i'd avoid them if you're looking for a quality tire,

yokohama..great tire but not all season, might wanna call and check on the DOT's of when they're were made, tire rubber service life is recommended for 5-7 years..careful when buying old aged "NEW" tire's.

sumitomo..inexpensive but probably better than the kumhos..has a rounder sipeless shoulder design so it should handle well

overrall, the bfg's will give you the highest satisfaction rate in terms of driving enjoyment, the tire carcass is the same as the Bfgoodrich KD and michelin pilot sport a/s 2,

the others are pretty much meh..some because they're cheap and nasty, cheap and dull and rest cause they're summer rubber.

if you're planning on getting bfg's..try a wholesale club like costco or bjs..they're offer free tire service and roadhazard warranty with every tire purchase..dunno bout costo but Bj's Roadhazard has a 9 month free replacement term, anything that fucks up your tires, nail, pothole..roadhazard will cover full cost of the tire, you just pay tax.

When I had my rims I ran Hankook Venus V12's in a 205/50/17, lowered, no rubbing

Very quiet and good in wet weather, even rocked them through a northeast winter one year.

I got them for $80/ea but that was years ago

the Hankook V12 are very popular with the Genesis for a "cheaper" option but still grippy. Should be sufficient for the Tiburon. I took the V12 on the Tail of the Dragon a few times and they worked great once they warmed up. My BFG Sport Comp 2 are much better on the grip but a little higher price. The V12 weren't the best in the world but were great for the price point and should be great for the Tiburon's use.

I've always used Kumhos and Nittos. Never any issues or problems.

The NeoGens need a bit of camber to work properly, I was never disappointed with them on the GK.

You should be reasonably happy with the BFG's.

I run dedicated summer and dedicated winter tires. I was never happy with compromise tires.

The neo gens side wall was non existent and in the couple of months I had them managed to bend 2 of my rims I live in the hills and we have some great roads! They just never gripped right even in comparison to the Nexxens strangley and I have to get rid of them since they don't protect the rims at all. Compared them to a few other tires and it seems they're pretty much designed to look good on lowered cars. I've hit a few potholes in with the Nexens and no big deal, but some rough railroad tracks and now i have to replace the rims. Not a total loss, I'm going to use them as spares for now, plus these wheels are super cheap. The Kumhos seemed promising, I liked my previous sets, but after talking to a few people who run them the response was pretty much "meh, it's a tire." We keep Kumhos on the Accent and they're awesome there. Just being super picky this time because I rag on the tib pretty hard. After the motor goes in I'm getting a good set of 3-piece wheels and some Toyo R888s. No point in spending all that money at this time, plus I can swap these on the 2 after.

Not worried about winter. Georgia winters are like fall in the real world.
