Are we talking about a 13REW like in the FD? If so it's probably a dead heat. Swapping to sing single turbo will save some weight. As far as internally goes, the e-shaft wont be an issue, those things are crazy solid stock. Upgraded bearings, and 3mm apex seals and that shouldn't be a big deal at all.
There's a 20B alternative but it's hardly worth mentioning because of the cost. Though that would allow you to run n/a on a bridge or peripheral port all day at the cost of having to run standalone.
If you want historical facts, look at the 787b and to a lesser extent the RX-792b. The 787 dominated with a 700 hp naturally aspirated rotary engine. Officials were constantly crying foul and making Mazda change the motor and chassis to make the other cars competitive. I'm just sayin'
Zero.
They cant find the belt in the box.

23mpg combined. My 350Z used to get 15 combined. Motor has a K&N drop-in filter and an exhaust, 82k miles, regular maint, but never had any kind of rebuild. If you're going to tell me that doing maintenance gives me an unfair advantage, that's the fault of the guy neglecting his car. Oh, I don't don't think my LS will EVER need apex seals.

I'd love to see an LS with apex seals modded onto the pistons. Canis latrans much?

his point is the fact that is 11 year old vehicle still gets the same mileage as the original rating
where as the owners of the most recent rotary powered vehicle are averaging 15-17 combined and MOST arent even hitting cobras combined rating when doing primarily highway driving and most are half as old as cobras with 1/4 of the mileage on em

As admitted, he along with most tuner (self included) do restorative maintenance which will set that clock back.
The average consumer on the other hand is only going to be changing oil regularly (and that's even a depressing statistic,) which hardly enough to restore full mpg. If we're arguing MPG it has to be argued on the grander scale. Otherwise driving style and other personal differences would need to be taken into account, and can't reliably be calculated, only experienced.
It's basically the difference between saying "My shoes have lasted 5 years, but I had them re-soled 4 times." And "these shoes suck, only 13 months and the sole's worn out."

My automatic LS1 Firebird Formula was getting 24mpg combined when I was using it to commute to and from work, about half city and half highway. I only managed to get 29mpg hwy though.
The wife's Tib gets worse mileage, that's for sure.
