I'm not a camera head so shutter settings and all that stuff you listed is greek to me. I want something that takes good pictures, is easy to use, somewhere around 4 MP (I'd like to be able to make some nice wallpapers or small posters if need be), with GOOD video and sound. Video length isn't that important I guess.

 

length is all about the memory card. first thing i got for the camera was a 512mb card. i can take like a 20 minute video.

Ehhh, I don't think so mang, my old camera could only do 30 second videos, QT format, even with a 512 MB card in it.

The a520 does 30 seconds to 3 minutes, depending on your size chosen.

 

Depends on the camera. Some have a fixed limit, others do not.

 

I've had the Fujifilm F700 for well over a year now, and it's still one of the best cameras that I've seen around (though, it's year-old technology). 6.1MP, Super CCD which makes for great photos, even in low-light situations. 640x480 video with sound (Television resolution). The videos are crystal clear when played over my 27" TV, and the microphone is quite receptive. Plus there's no cut-off for video (some cameras only allow 30 sec. clips), I have a 256Mb card, and can get over 4 minutes of video. And, for the person who doesn't want to mess with settings, it has the quick modes for Night, Portrait, Landscape & Motion. Plus the Macro button will let you take crystal clear images up to around 3" away. It's small enough to fit in your pocket without having that "off-center bulge" look. And finally, it's dock (included) turns it into a top-notch webcam. But... if you're looking to get something more up-to-date, go with the S5000 like Joshuwa suggested. smile.gif

Do they have a updated version of it since it's a year later now?

How is the power consumption?

 

I'm not positive, but the F450 looks to be the closest relative from tooling around the website. Looks to have similar/same features, and is thin in size. But it also looks to be a 5.4MP camera, rather than the 6.2MP of the F700. It advertises on Fujifilm.com that it can do 16" x 22" prints clearly in the little informational video... if that's good enough for you, rock it.

 

There are some cameras, that can record video in MPEG4 (640x480) with sound on all memory card space.

I have Olympus C770, and I can record about 20 minutes video on 256 Mb card.

 

to add my .02, digital cameras seem to be one of the few things in life that actually follow the "higher cost, higher quality" way of thinking.

About the only other example of this that I can think of is toilet paper. You get what you pay for.
